I found the secret oil temp menu, but....what do all the other settings on that menu do, i.e -14,-13, etc etc? :undecided:
-
I know -19 is your speed in kph.
-
yes, finally worked out mine aswell, have the same question as to what are the other numbers mean, and also as does Nicks GTi (wantmygti) reading 95 degress from cold start, and reading between 77-80 degrees warm running. strange :undecided:
-
Would some one be kind enough to talk me through how you get to thsi secrect menu, to get your oil temp?
thank you
Nath

* 4.2 : Outside temp - rear bumper (inside temp?)
* 15.0 : Oil temp
* 19.0 : Uncorrected speed (Kmh)
* 19.1 : Uncorrected speed (Mph)
* 19.2 : Coolant temp

What is uncorrected speed?
I noticed yesterday that my speedo is approx 7/8mph faster than my true speed reported by my GPS. Do they correct it downwards, and hence uncorrected speed is the true, "raw" speed?
-
Speedos cannot under read the speed so they build in a safety margin.

Sorry to bring this topic back up but its annoying the hell out of me. I've got the list above as to what some of the settings produce, but does anyone know the full breakdown, as there are loads of other settings that produce other readings? I've looked on the net and there are codes listed for the MkIV but no lists for the MkV apart from the one listed above. Is there one that will show the turbo boost (boost guage) by any chance? I've been trying to work them all out for days.
-
I don't think that they are all meaningful to the layman - must be used by VW bods to check stuff.

Ok, thanks, maybe TT has a bit of info on them?

Sadly, no - I only know what is on the list, and some of them arn't confirmed.
Like you, I do have my suspicions that turbo boost (requested and actual), induction air temperature, pre and post cat lambda readings, and a whole host of other things can be read.
Maybe someone with VAG-COM can do some data logging. :nerd:

This info has made my afternoon :smiley:. Knowing the oil temp is very useful, something I think should be standard on any performace cars.
I never start to open the car up until the oil is up to temp.
Pity it can't be displayed in the centre console instead of average speed.

I agree, but you'll soon find that the digital one isn't very good at all. It's certainly not accurate - it will read 95 degrees after a days rest, say if you drive to work then drive home. Fine on the way in, crap going home.

I've seen something like this before on a race engine. The temp sensor for the EFI system was in the head, so what happened was that when the engine starts, for the 1st few minutes the water in the head gets hot, and goes very slowly through the cooling system, through the little bypass hole in the thermostat, as the thermostat is closed.
So the head gets to 95 deg quite quickly. Then as the thermostat gets some heat to it it opens, and lets cooled water circulate properly, so the temp in the head actually drops. Strange, but true.
On a race engine this was a pain for tuning, so we moved the thermostat to the other side of the engine, but on road cars it was never a problem.
I haven't had a look at the GTI motor to work out where the thermostat is, but if it's on the top radiator hose then probably it's the same thing happening here.

I wonder if i am misunderstanding this secret oil temp thingy - it appears when you press "up" and "econ" on the dash, doesn't it? Thing is, i only get one reading - how do you guys get a list of readings? Also, my oil temp readings are well strange - sometimes its reading "50" after driving the car for about an hour! :undecided: couple of days back it was 0 before switching the engine off. Bit like a yoyo. Car runs absolutely fine though. This didn't happen before the oil change though - it was consistently reading 95. Any thoughts? Am i doing something wrong? Is the car ok? Is the world round :laugh:?

The left hand temp dial alters the main digits and the fan speed dial changes the figures to decimals. Sorry can't help with the rest. :sad:
-
are you turning the middle dial to read "15" in the left hand window?? then the oil temp is displayed in the right hand window?
-
Oops, Hully is right, Left knob to change main area, middle knob section!
-
sorry i cant be botherd to read through the 3 pages, how do you get this menu up??
doesnt it display this on highline?
