Post by: colley on 04 April 2007, 21:38
Got the golf bout 1 month ago now.

Get average mpg of bout 41ish.
Max speed of 128mpg (private road?!)
noticed my engine temp sensor has a mind of its own and only work sometimes.
also idles abit jumpy at times.

Any ideas guys?

Any help welcome!

Hi mate,
I have looked into this and there are quite a few things it could be be. The maf sensor seems to be quite a regular fault. Timing can sometimes be out and even little air leaks.

Hopefully someone with a bit more experience on here can give you some ideas on how to check.

Cheers
Tim

Temp gauges tend to jump around a bit and are usually solved by replacing the temp sensor. any good volkswagen garage would change it over for no more than £35 supplied and fitted. my temp gauge would cut out completely sometimes, had the temp sensor replaced and is good as new. don't know about your idling problem though, sorry

I had a similar problem, turned out the fuse for my air-con had blown.  You find it under the battery cover, replaced it and all was well again.

VW or motor factors.  Make sure you get the genuine one though (think its a Bosch).

Price is around £70 on an exchange basis i believe
