Title: Alarm and Immobiliser
Post by: patch900 on 03 April 2007, 14:26
Hi, currently got a Mk3 golf with immobiliser (factory fitted).

How much difference (approx) insurance wise does it make upgrading to Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser ?

I know its a bit of a difficult question.

Hi mate,

thats a hard one to answer as some companies might actually give a discount for the factory system anyway. So ignoring the system thats on the car already most of our underwriters offer between 7.5% to 12% discount for Thatcham 1.

Obviously it may be different for whichever company you are currently with tho.

Hope that helps

Martin

Cheers Martin,

I thought it wouldnt be that easy to answer but thanks anyway.

My insurance is due in November this year so I will be on to you then with all the details. Might have altered the car slightly by then as well

I was with HIC with a mk3 Golf gti with a factory alarm decalred.

I had fitted a Clifford CAT 1 with certificate and they gave no discount for this.

Some insurance companies wont give a crap about alarm or immob pending on car value to be honest i wouldnt waste the 250 quid  Martin is right about underwriters but only at a certain value
