Title: Arrgghh
Post by: marmarus on 02 April 2007, 23:27
Alright folks,  first post, must admit, the GTI brings a smile to my face everytime I drive it. The handling is so so much better than I ever expected it to be, it inspires confidence on the back roads.  I do find the brakes overly sharp when required for light braking, but, heavy braking, they dont seem to be up to the job.

This middle air vent on top of the dash is driving me mad, how cheap is the plastic that it is made from ??     How embarrassing is it when I am in my GTi and it creaks now and again, but, when I am in the missus new Astra, not the best drive around, there is not a single creak. For a car half the price the build quality is so much better.
What were VW thinking off ????
Looks like this vent is coming out and some dampening being put in.

Anyone else havin the same issue with the same part ?

Mine is fine. Mine is like a brick sh1t house, no squeaks or rattles. You want a car that rattles, drive a MINI Cooper. They are right buggers!!!

I have noticed that the brakes are really good at fast speeds - but give it real welly (below 70! :nerd:) and the brakes do feel as if they are glazing during application.

well i can say in a New bettle convertable, there are more creaks , breezes, noises, and moanning noises, (and thats just the driver!), Have to agree with the Pug 206 CC, what a great digestive tin it is indeed.

Don't know about the vent rattling, but the passenger seat is driving me mad, fine when there's a bum on it, but creaks like a 90year old on a zimmer frame without.
Can't turn the stereo up to hide as then the door cards start, bring back the build quality of the previous model.

Got the dash vent rattle on my 07 GTI..Drives me mad

Have tried anti-rattle tape under the vent with no joy, going to try some bluetac next as I really don't want to dealer it yet...

****** annoying.

My vent on the top rattled too.
Fixed it with some fir backed tape.

My 1966 Mini (riley elf) does not rattle

I have had more different rattles in the mk5 GTI than in most our other cars not good.

I no of some people on the mini forum i used to go on - they got their complete dashboards dismantled and trimmed with tape or padding or something just to get rid of the rattles. We're talking 04 - 06 cars here!!! I can't believe it!!!
