. . . . picked it up last Friday (30th March)
Fcuk me - it's gorgeous . . . .
The seats that "hug" you when you press the "S" button . . . .
The "lap timer" in the dash . . . .
The headlamps which bend around corners . . . .
The lush carbon/ceramic brakes, and no brake dust . . . .
The "engine start" button - I let my nephew fire up the V8 beast, and now I'm the coolest Uncle in town!
-
I sat in a RS4 saloon at the weekend, and I have to say that the Recaro shell seats were the most uncomfortable things that I have ever sat in
Sat in another one with the standard seats that are also fitted to the cabriolet, and they were far comfier and much more suited to daily driving
Apart from that, I have to say that the model is utterly stunning...good choice sir
-
sounds awesome, gets some pictures up dude

by the sounds of it TT , You need to get married to it!!

What didn't you like about them? Did you manage to adjust the upper and lower side bolsters?
I was cautious about the buckets before I ordered it, because I have a spinal injury, but I had a two-hour test drive beforehand, and it confirmed the buckets were the way to go. OK, they do need some careful adjustment, just like any seat, but once you get em right, boy are they good.

The "standard" RS4 cabrio seats are the same Recaros as the S4, and are also a no-cost option for the RS4 saloon and Avant.

 Ta

Have to say the RS4 is stunning. For some reason I favour the estate but both are sweet. Really like the undercover super quick Audi's, RS6 is the same.
Even though this is a Golf forum I'd like some pics Sean... (we'll call it the GTi's really big brother to get it in!)

Cheers, just uploading them from my camera, and editing out the reg plate, then pushing them all down my slooooooww dial-up pipe to photobucket, then we should be in business!
-
Enough with the chat, let's see some pictures TT
-
Yerp agree lovely cars - seats are well tops in my book - always wished they were available in the ED30 with that trim option.
Have to say though that as much as i like the minimal approach by the Germans, paying £50k+ to look none too different from a normal one is just a bit rich - My opinion of course - still your a lucky sod!

The seats - they'll probably be available on the Ed35 .
Seriously though, anyone who lashed out £50+ on a top of the range motor, with supposedly exclusive features, like the Recaro buckets, the 40:60 Torsen, the ESP 8.0, and the DRC - and then stopped at the lights and noticed the same "exclusive" seats in another car, at half the price - I think they'd be pretty miffed!
No doubt they will eventually filter down, in a couple of years time. In the same way that the B6 S4 suspension set-up found its way onto the entire range of B7 A4s.

When I eventually get them all uploaded to the 'bucket, you'll see that I've gone for the "Q" car look - just like my old S4 - pics here:

No, I probably didn't adjust them properly
It was the lower side bolsters - really uncomfortable I found when getting in and out of the car

mmm the optional extra seats in the half price Golf GTI and the Audi RS4 jobbies look pretty similar to me - Sorry!

Yeah, they are slightly more difficult to get in and out of them, but, boy, once in, they are mega . . .

Ah - but the devil is in the detail. Looky at my (crap!) piccy, and work out the difference.

Oh yeah I can see the difference

God all guns blazin at you TT - all because of one jacket - i suppose you couldnt even blame the wife this time!
Is this you TT - are you one of them?

Somethings you'll never let down!
-
I wouldn't mind wearing the jacket if the car came with it
Only once mind
-
that picture of that dodgy bloke, i swear he looks like a salesman in my local dealership!, he looks the trust worthy type!
-
The seats in the RS4 are Recaro Sportster's. They do them for the New New MINI Works. They look mint. Cost a bit tho!!!
-
Have we been a bit harsh TT - you've gone all quite - not speaking to us anymore?
Come on shows yer car ya big dafty!!!
-
Come on TT, where's the pics of the outside. I think if I see it I might just have to sell the house and buy one. Have to be an Avant though, cause I'll have to live in it when the house goes.
-
Barstewards !!!!!
Away from the site for a few days, and all you do is take the p!$$ out of my "attire" !!!!
fx/on <pulls assorted knives out of back> fx/off
Now then, where were we? The seats - the actual Recaro shells may be available as an expensive option on the GTI & R32, but they don't get the extra electrical adjustable lumbar support (handy for when the Jacket gets in the way  ), nor, more importantly, the electically adjustable, steering wheel controlled inflatable side bolsters (which really are canine gonads)!
What are they like in the new Mini? Do they have the adjustable bolsters? Anyone got a quick link, rather than the animated flash from the main website?
More pix to follow . . . .

Oh, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo - they really lower the tone of this marvellous thread
Sweet wheels - how do those rubber bands affect the ride?
Actually, the ride is softer than my B6 S4, which ran on 40s/18s - but the DRC really stiffens it up in the twisties! :smug:

Do they need warming up TT?
-
Do they need warming up TT?
Not really, though they do work "different" to iron discs. When you first press the pedal, they initially work like conventional brakes, but after about ½ a second, you can actually feel the retardation increase without any further pedal pressure.
They are good though - I'm glad I went for them. Still got a while to go before it is properly run in though, so the anchors havn't yet been used in "anger"
-
Dare i ask how much that option box cost?

Sounds good, and no brake dust, that's a big plus.

£4,235   - but think of Loreal

Aye, the front wheels are still gleaming, whilst the rears are minging already
The front discs have a minimum thickness of 37.5mm
-
Aye, the front wheels are still gleaming, whilst the rears are minging already
TT - does that mean it's £4k+ for TWO ceramics  and the rear discs are still iron?

Yup!!
But the ceramics are claimed to last any where between five to ten times longer than the conventional setup.
Now, on the standard RS4 front brakes, a pad set will cost about £250-280, discs (will probably need changing every pad change, ever other at best) are around £300-400 EACH - so you could be looking at £900 for a disc and pad change. Some peeps have reported needing new (conventional) discs and pads after around 6,000-7,000 miles. That is similar to what I was getting on my last S4.
Looking at the Porsche ceramics vs conventional iron setups, the extended life of the ceramics does seem to be standing up to the manufacturers claims (providing they are not abused). :smug:
And then there is quantum leap improvement in braking performance!

Must be a straight swap onto an ED30

ok fed up of seeing wheels TT, can we see some pics of the actual car!!!!!!!,

Gorgeous car Sean,
I would have liked to have seen it in the flesh at the GTI spring festival though
I think you may have even got near me on the 1/4 mile

Hmmm...Maybe I could have those lovely alloys as well then

Lovely Car TT, not sure 'er indoors appreciated the photo call though!!!

PMSL
Yes, Mrs Tamer was getting a little bored, whilst I was trying out my David Bailey stuff!
She certainly likes fiddling with the electric seat adjustments though, particularly the height adjustable lumbar support!
Naah, didn't bother with the ejector seat (wait till I really need it ) - she just went for a p!$$, hence the moody shots infront of the bogs

lovely car... i took one for a test drive blagging i was thinking of buying one! if i would have had the money i would have put a deposit down there and then... enjoy it!!!

Lucky guy!
I was lucky enough to drive these on a daily. They have a spit fire kind of idle when you start in a cold morning
I fell in love.
Enjoy it

Stunning stunning car, i love it!

Gorgeous car Sean,
Thanks
I would have liked to have seen it in the flesh at the GTI spring festival though
Hopefully, I'll be at Inters, so you can drool over it there!
I think you may have even got near me on the 1/4 mile
Would that be after your 5 second, or 10 second headstart?
Must be a straight swap onto an ED30

Ahh, but would your Ed30 have enough torque to get 'em rotating ??? :nerd: :smug:
-
Very nice pics there TT. Lovely car.
But ......HOW MUCH for a set a disk & pads!
Which type, iron or ceramics?
The standard RS4 iron discs and pads for the front only, will be about £900 for the parts only
Incidentally, an Aussie who does a few track days, is reporting standard discs and pads need changing after 4,000 miles !!!! - now I'm glad I went for the ceramics - they will have paid for themselves after 2 or 3 conventional iron disc and pad changes (with stealers labour included). I know how my S4 used to have an unhealthy apetite for front discs and pads - every 6,000 miles
-
lovely car... i took one for a test drive blagging i was thinking of buying one! if i would have had the money i would have put a deposit down there and then... enjoy it!!!
Thanks.
Trouble with Audi S and RS models is that you need a bottomless pit to run and maintain the bu&&ers too!

Thanks.
Yeah, I know what you mean, when you first start it up in the morning. Pushing the start button is probably like poking a sleeping lion with a big stick - it growls, roars and burbles away, and you can actually feel the V8 beast rocking and shaking the whole car, until it settles to it's normal tick-over.
Why did you give yours up, if you don't mind me asking?
-
Stunning stunning car, i love it!
Thanks Nathan.
I could just use your skills and expertise with keeping it clean and shiny though !!
-
Bout time with the photo's TT, stunning motor, I bet your like a dog wioth two dick's at the mo, BTW should I worry about you hanging round public toilets.
Congrats and enjoy the beast.

Those were all taken about 20 minutes after I collected it, hence why it is still clean.
Yes, it certainly looks very classy - I think that is where all Audis score big time over their comparables, particularly M series BMWs, and AMG Mercs. And I still think, in the silver, it retains the "Q" car look. OK, if you are a VAG fanatic, then you will probably know it's an RS4, but for the vast majority, especially the "max-muppets" and chav brigade, they won't have a clue what it is!
-
And just in case I happen to "forget" what I'm about to drive!

They are earlier in the thread!

loving that interior
Don't think anyone comes close to matching the quality of Audi interiors

I like!!
-
loving that interior

Aye, there is a notable difference in quality between Audis and the rest of the VAG range.
Before we bought SWMBOs GTI, we also looked at the Fabia vRS (don't laugh, its a cracking car, just a little too small), a Seat Leon (    interior, and     exterior, and shyte driving position), and also the Audi A3 sportback.
OK, the Golf isnt too bad, but the Seat was just shocking quality, inside and out, crap quality welding in the seams, sh!t switchgear, poor quality plastics, not very ergonomically designed.
The Skoda on the other hand, felt just as well finished (screwed together) as the Golf, but the switchgear was slightly more "frumpy" (though better than Seat), and the levels of kit were lower.
-
Now you are taking the piss TT with those glasses - got any photos of your 'driving' gloves?
At it again, Ollie !!!
I have got some Polos (specs), but if I wear em for too long, they give me a headache. And no, the prescription is the same for both, along with my black aviator sunnys
-
Absolutely lovely machine, just don't let the goats anywhere near this one!!
The interior is just lovely, I want one, but it would have to be the Avant as IMO it looks a little better from the outside.

Well, how else am I supposed to get a free car wash !!
The interior is just lovely,
Yup, any Audi is a nice place to be inside - quality, yet understated.
I want one, but it would have to be the Avant as IMO it looks a little better from the outside.
Nah, the saloon has a more rigid body shell - pretty crucial if you want to explore all 420 ponies :nerd:. And, with the seats up, the saloon and Avant have identical boot capacities.

No worries.
I actually admire the ethos of Audi making RS Avants - basically a giant-killing estate car - must be cool as fcuk blowing a Porker or AMG Merc into the weeds, in and estate!!

My point exactly, looks like a family car, but goes like stink!

After watching Tiff last night - it would have to be an R8  - The dog can walk!

Yebut - so does the saloon - an it's even quicker than the Avant! :nerd:

Why? The R8 has the same engine as mine, it has the same 40:60 split rear bias quattro, it has the same fully switchable ESP 8.0 - oh, and it has three less seats! :nerd:
BTW, it can even have MY ceramic brakes. :smug:
Granted, it does look cool as fcuk, mine dew !!!

Nah, four bolts at the front, and four at the rear - and I can get mine looking like the 3rd and 4th pixs
Just to make it clear, the propshaft and driveshafts are not painted red on real ones! It is only red-tops on the cam covers. :nerd:
"brake venting geometry by means of Naca jets " - explain !!!!! - And NOOOOO, it's not some kind of acronym for "Karcher induced broken gonads" !!
-
so then, is that an optional extra for Audi, buy the car (3rd and 4th pics), and the option of Bodywork is the xtra 20 grand on the options list!! maybe Vw's next GTi will have the same offer for a budget runaround!

LOL, don't give 'em ideas.
Incidentally, when I was at college, we had a chassis and full running gear of a Triumph Herald. It was great fun terrorising all the girles at the art college, when bombing around the campus at lunch time and the evenings !!!
