Basically starts over 50mph even when I am in neutral, it sounds like a sort of vibrationy noise coming from the front of the car but there is no vibration, seems to get louder the quicker I go. Any ideas?? its an '88 8valve.
Thanks in advance,

Could be either a wheel bearing, gets louder under heavy braking, or one of your wheels has thrown a weight. These are the things to check for first before the more expensive items like gearboxes and such.

or one of your wheels has thrown a weight.
What does this mean? I cant see it being the gearbox as it happens when in neutral so the gearbox wouldnt really be in use, or would it? Im not sure

That is why I said to look for the obvious like wheel bearings and wheels. It is unlikely to be the gearbox, but it is still a remote possibility as although the gearbox is not driving the wheels whilst in neutral, the wheels are driving the differential. But as I said, it is 95% unlikely to be gearbox.
Also, go underneath the car and look at the CV joint boots to see if one is split. This would be indicated by black grease (Molybdinum dysolphide) (Spelling???) being thrown everywhere. If this is the case, then the associated CV joint could be dry. This would also cause a noise when the car is being driven and steered at full lock. You would get a clacking noise.

Yep the cv boot on the right is split, stupid for not noticing it before  Thanks man, im gonna do the cv joints and bearings is there anything else I should do when im down there?

Do one job at a time. It helps when you are trouble shooting to isolate the fault. Good luck.

sounds like a front wheel bearing...
