Hi Guys
Picked her up today at 10am. go her home and started work, Washed the car (properly!!!) clayed the full body work, removed some light swill marks and have waxed the car fully with PS21. Car now looks stunning and I am so so happy with it. The 10 miles from the dealer to my house was a pleaure, it was very responsive and turned heads! Made sure the dealer put a full take of Bp Ultimate in so make sure you get them to do the same. Will go and have a fiddle with the higline comp and I-pod connection now.
Dealer told me that the car does not need running in and I sould just drive it off as normal! I questioned this and he says they are already run in. My view is that I will not be going over 3500rpm for the first 1000 miles, this will also give the brakes, tyers etc to also run in correctly.
Hope these pics keep the ones that are waiting happy. ha ha, I have just noticed I have managed to post my self in one of the photos, what a retard!
Nath

Lovely car. Spot on.Looks great in red. Matches the interior styling.
Also matched the calipers! Looks sweet though. Do you have rear tints? Some photos look dark and others dont!
Is your ashtray area just a hole? I have still have a few weeks to wait for mine and am unsure as to what I'll get in the ashtray area!
-
Looking good mate, mine is sat at Emden in Germany at the mo, waiting to be shipped so should get it in a about 2 weeks I think, am green as sat here!!
-
  very nice - red was my 2nd choice colour
-
nice mate, just need to join the black valance club now
-
Very Nice. You can polish mine if you want!
I can't believe some of the information that the dealers give out. There is a section in the handbook detailing running in.
I followed the running in instructions and gradually built up the revs over near 1200 miles. Kept an eye on the oil level as mention in some other posts and she hasn't used a drop.
Enjoy. But wait until shes run in..................
-
Sweet car
Had a tornado red MkIV in the past and do like the colour.

Hi
No I didn't go for the rear tints, it is probs just my bad camera. No the ash trash area just has a black push up cover over it! I am sure I have seen other peoples that look alloy tho? I don't have the smoking pack by the way!
Thanks for all your nice comments

The alloy look ashtray cover is standard on the .:R32 only. You can get aftermarket ones, or even the genuine OEM 32 cover to fit though.
-
Very nice...red looks much better than I expected.
Still think 5 door looks nicer than 3.
-
Stunning looking car, you've done a nice job waxing her, camera colour balance looks wrong to me though, too orange. still the mutt's though.
-
I will have a fiddle with my camera and see what it is playing at! I will probs take some more at the weekend any way! It is only a 3 million pix camera and don't think it is the beast!
-
i have an alloy one on my GTI, whether it was a cost cutting excercise on later models

What - the ashtray cover? Is it the same brushed aluminium as the door trims, or is it like the "engine spin" design of the .:R32 ???
If so prise it up, and read the part number and post it here! :nerd:
-
yes mine is the same brushed alloy as the door and dash trims, ill have a look to see if i can find an interia pic of my car............

Try this chap on ebay, couldn't find the ashtray lid on its own, but you get the idea. I got one for my Ed30, looks much better than the black plastic one! They are genuine VW also! It looks quite 'shiny' in picture, but it is the same brushed ali look as door and dash trim.

No the only thing thats a "smelly" is the Cherrys!!. the fluffy dice aernt of the smelly sort, just bought by the missus taking the piss. The 2 dogs were a visit to Mcdonalds !! like you used to get with your big macs!
If your GTi has full leather , then you would know that the Leather always has a smell to it, so the cherrys were to change it, and rather nice smell, especially if you give em a rub!
-
Guys - the ashtray cover story - on the ED30 they supply the black plastic as standard, some of us (like BMX) have bought the Aliminuim one off ebay (about £20) - but well worth it - it matches the other ali bits.
Easy to fit - if I can do it anyone can.
Earlier GTI's had ali as standard.

Ahh - and there was I, thinking they were some kind of "prize souvenier", from when your Mrs carried out the "op" on you!

Mmmmmm - mine don't smell when I rub 'em ???

Does it?? Got my GTi recently, and I thought it was just a hole!!! Wife's out in it now, so can't have a look, but maybe I do have a push-up cover as well :embarassed: Where does it "push-up" from? :embarassed:
-
The 'hole' is old spec, they put a cover on it at some point. Depends how old yours is.
-
Yep mine has deffinatley got a mat black cover over it!

Brand new, from main dealers, last week
-
Well mine is a month old so we should have the same. You need a cover! It may just be open?!?
-

Yeah, maybe I'm just being a muppet - to be honest, haven't had a proper look since the 1st day we got it and I commented "oh bugg3r, we haven't got a cover, we should have ordered the smoking pack". Wife drives it, so not been in it for a couple of days. If it's a "lift-up" cover I'd surely have noticed it, if it "slides away" then maybe not...? :embarassed: Is it a "lift-up" or "slide-away" then?
You're right though, I need a cover!!
-
on this photo I have it closed. To open it you just push and it pops up. To close you just push it shut. There is a slib cover over the centre cup holders next to the hand brake, where you thinking of this. I would be very strange if you didn't have one!

It does push open/shut but unless I'm going blind Nathan that's open???

Car looks lovely mate
Enjoy it!

Nice set of pics

RedRobin. just defected from Tyresmoke.net?
-
Fantastic looking car Nathan. We'll have to meet up as soon as I get mine for a blast around the Northumbrain roads!
Regarding the front ashtray. From what I've seen, the smoking pack comes with the lid and a cig lighter, whilst cars without the smoking pack seem to come with no lid, just an open area with a 12v socket, like the one in the boot. Maybe they gave you the smoking pack by mistake Nathan? Do you have an ashtray in the rear door behind the drivers seat? If so, it definately came with the smoking pack.
-
Mmm will double cheeck tonight and let you know! I am pleased I have a lid on my ash tray, even tho I don't uss it for any thing, it just looks neet! I would not even eat in my car never mind carry out that filthy habbit in there!

They all have a lid now, just the smoking pack has a fag lighter with it. Old spec cars did not have a lid without the smoking pack but i think that was changed as far back as MY05.

Not sure on that Wantmygti, as the 56 reg demo GTI at my dealer has no lid in the front and also has a 12v cap over the socket like the one in the boot. Now unless that car is really old stock they must still come without lids if you don't order the smoking pack. I can't see that GTI being old stock as I know that VW builds them to order, hence the waiting for the cars. Well I'll have to see what I get when mine arrives as I didn't order the smoking pack either. :undecided:
-
I didnt order a smoking pack on mine, but the demo one had a lid.
When I asked the dealer which things the standard one wouldnt have, he never mentioned the lid!
If mine doesnt come with a lid, I'll be kicking up a fuss as I was told it was standard
-
Double checked last night and my car deffinatley does not have the smoking pack. It has the 12v socket in the front and no ash tray in the rear! BUT IT HAS A LID

Same here
Although my 54 plate GTTDi had a brushed aluminium surface and the ED30 has plain black plastic
-
How bizarre. Well I'll be able to check mine soon as the dealer has just called me to say that my Ed30 has arrived in the country and I'll be able to go and have a look at it in a couple of days, yeee haaa
Not bad timing as the car was only a week 13 build and has arrived in this country by week 15, wow! . Still, I've got to wait till May to pick her up as I'm moving permanently back north, so don't want the new car till I've moved.
-
I've planned the full wash / wax treatment for mine when it arrives. I'm sure I can do a better job than the dealer.
Do you think the clay was necessary?
-
I believe the clay will remove any oxidisation from the paintwork and IMO I wouldn't wax without doing that first. Good way to tell is by putting some cellophane over your fingers, like what cigs come wrapped in and run your fingers over the bodywork of the car. It will probably feel quite rough. Then use the clay and the wax pre-treatment, then do the same again and it should feel silky smooth. Believe me, although it sounds a bit dodgy, it works! :nerd: :smug:
-
I'm aware of the benefits of claying. Spent 7hrs doing the works on my current MK IV today.
I didn't think that a new car would need to be clayed. Thinking about it, it makes sense. There's probably some residual transport wax to get rid of etc.
I take it it's safe to do this to new paintwork? I remember as a kid that you could put permanent finger prints into the paint of new cars. (much to my dad's annoyance)

No, it will be fine. Friend of mine had a new 911 a few years ago and he gave it the full works when he got it back home. Although it looked fine the paintwork didn't feel very smooth when he did the cellophane test. Best way IMO is to feel the paintwork under the cellophane. If you can't feel any bumps or ridges and it feels smooth, then it won't need doing. I'm betting though that it will feel pretty rough and you'll have to spend another 7hrs outside in the sunshine.

That's what kept me outdoors today, started with a wash at about 10am this morning!

Another strange one this weekend. Saw a new Candy White Ed30 in the shoowroom at a main dealer and it did not have a lid in the front storage compartment. It just had the 12v socket and empty space for storage. This was a basic car and didn't seem to have any extras whatsoever. So it looks like a completely random process whether you get a lid or not. How bizzare.

Oh well, another mystery of VW! All i know is mine came with a lid and no smoking pack, and prior to delivery this is what the dealer said I'd have as one of their second hand cars which was 2-3 years old had no lid and i was told it was old spec when i asked.
Everything seems a bit random at VW.

Mine too, non-smoker pack, storage compartment with lid, and 12V socket with another smaller circular lid. Model year build 7, delivery 1st Sep last year, PDI in June/July 06, so it must have been one of the first m-y 07s.

Still weired though as the Candy White Ed30 that I saw must be MY07 too. As has already been said, it seems to be random. Still waiting to see mine, not too bothered either way. :undecided:

The Ed30s will definately all be MY07s.
I think it just depends what parts they have available on the actual production line, as mine was missing the circular plugs which cover the wiper spindle nuts, and unsightly rust marks showed everytime you poped the bonnet. I asked the stealer why they were missing, and after checking, he said a "batch" of Golf Vs left the factory without them!

nice mate, just need to join the black valance club now
