hey guys.
I have my MOT next week. I have removed the ABS warning light as it was staying on all the time. Will my car pass its MOT now as the testers will be unable to check if the ABS is working? Cheers
-
not an mot requirement mate.
mines doing the same.
been told that its more than likely the passenger side sensor playing up.
-
I think it is an MOT requirement. Thats what Ive been told. I think I will give it a go.
-
as far as I know they test the brakes for defects. If they see a big orange light saying "I'M BROKE LOOK HERE FIX ME FIX ME FIX ME!!!" they're more likeley to notice it's broke. Hmm, what to do, eh? :lipsrsealed:
-
Guys dont remove the bulbs , get the system fixed . If your abs isnt working then the brakes wont be balanced either .
-
you may be lucky and he may not notice it's got an ABS pump.
It could be any of the sensors tbh, and like adyh says, get it fixed or the first time you slam the anchors on you might end up facing the wrong way.
-
If the car is fitted with ABS then it should be working for the MOT.
Your car should fail.
Unless you get lucky and they dont notice, but with the new system its almost impossible for them not too!

Whats the best thing to do? Stick it on a vag-com or clean all the sensors first? Where are the sensors and how do you take them off and clean them? Cheers for the help guys!!
-
If you have access to VAG-COM, get the codes read.
-
Where would I get access from?
-
Where do you live ? Im in london , but someone with it may be near you .
-
I live in Worcester. Would be great if someone nearby could help me.
-
I have similar worries and did consider the question you poised but TBH I think my safety and the safety of others would suggest replacement / cleaning. The sensors are around £60 I think. For the diagnostics I would pop over to yell.com and search for Garage Services in your area and get on the phone. Mines OSR. A "how to clean the ABS sensors" with pictures would be very much appreciated as would prefer to try this tack first..
Anyone done this ? A lot of my local garages have suggested the sensor "may" just be dirty..
-
Why not buy a fault code reader instead of going to a garage as you can buy the reader for about £30 and this will come in handy for the future
-
They definately pay for themselves .
-
Where would I get a reader from? Are the shareware ones on ebay good enough to tell me which sensor it is? How hard would it be to test the sensors with a voltmeter??
-
you can test them with a voltmeter.
theres a post somewhere telling you what the resistance should be. the fronts can be tested using the connector on the strut and the rears are under the back seat.
-
Can you explain exactly how to test? Do you know what the resistances should be? Is it easy to loacte the connectors? Cheers
