Title: Removing left-over wax and polish
Post by: gonnahavemesomefun on 01 April 2007, 18:27
Can anyone suggest what I could use to remove the white hard crusty left-overs of wax that the previous owner of my Golf couldn't be bothered to buff off?

I can barely pick it off, carefully, with my nail, it's found it's way into every gap, glaring at me in a white-crusty way in various crevises around my car.

Perhaps there's a shampoo that will just get rid of any wax on my paintwork so I can go and do a proper job afresh?
(there are also smudge marks from bad waxing that I'd like to just get rid of by eliminating the wax layer, I can tell there's wax on the paintwork still when I wash it).

It'd be great to get rid of the existing rubbish as I have now purchased a few products and tested them on a small area with amazing results (Meguiars clay and wax and various AutoGlym stuff).

Many thanks for any replies, cheers

clay bar is your best weapon initailly. wash the car and then dry it off.  then using the quick detailer and bar go over the whole car, working in small areas.  then wash the car again, dry off and admire your results

your paintwork should feel like glass ater using the claybar.

Cheers Rhyso, what do you reckon about the white crusty c**p - it's like left-over wax that's got stuck down the little gaps where the door protectors are and in the gaps between panels.

I bought some of that clay stuff, it feels like you're wasting your time when using it but the results speak for themselves!

steam cleaner will sort it, or washing up liquid which is very harsh to use on cars but will strip all the nasty off, so as long as you polish and wax it after you'll be ok.
