i have fitted my gauges and they all work good! but the temp sender on the filter housing wasnt able to run the mfa and the vdo gauge. so any ideas where i can a)either put a second temp sender, or b) where i can get a t piece adapter from so i can run 2 temp senders from on top of the oil filter housing?
-
Does your oli filter housing have a blanking plug in it for a extra switch. Has a 5mm allen key head and I think the thread is the same as the temp switch.
Steve.
-
nah its got one for oil pressure and one for oil temp
-
this post will help me out aswel. oil temp doesnt work.
Is it the yellow wire for pressure? and green wire for oil temp ??? lost :-\
-
yeah green is temp and yellow is pressure. the temp sender is the smaller of the two senders on the filter housing and the pressure is the larger one at the back
-
sorry about the hijack but are they easy to replace and how much from VW?
-
dont know how much from vw but they are easy to replace the just unscrew with a socket!
-
im sure you could make your own. Buy the bits from halfords and crimp two together ???
-
Not a lot from VW, my oil pressure sender was leaking and I got a new one for about ?7 I think. stopped the leak too.
I've had a look on the net for VDO stuff and couldn't find that much to be honest.
I get the theory with the Pressure sender just being replaced with an audi sender with two connectors on it. one for the idiot light on the dash and one for the gauge.
I am also interested in a definate answer to the wiring up of the temp gauge as I am going to be buying a set of VDO gauges for my car.
What set up does the audi have that the gauges come from ?
-
the audi has one temp sender which only powers the manual dial, i dont think they had an mfa or anything so only had to have 1 sender. the golf has the mfa but no dial so only needed 1 sender. do you gt my drift? dial and mfa = 2 senders needed. i tried to wire both to one sender but my mfa went weird.

looks good to me ed.
I found this site for basic wiring diagrams of individual dials.
http://www.vegasvik.com/garage/vdo.html
Also found an original 2001 VDO cataloque.
http://www.vehiclecontrols.com/products/vdo_catalog_1.pdf
hope that gives a bit of info

So in theory veedub you'll have the two pole connector at the front and the rear one will have a t piece to run a standard temp sender and a new one for the gauge.
Is this what you got at the moment?

-
that is it exactly! cos the twin pole temp sender doesnt fit on the back it fouls on the oil filter bolt that holds it to the block if you see what i mean!
-
Do you think one of those T piece adapters will fit in the gap.
Also look on the link for the VDO cataloque I posted, has the colour adapters to change your dials to green instead of red.
-
yeah but i will have to cut them open ??? to get the old red filter out :-\
-
i think the t piece will fit tho, i have ordered one from big boys toys
-
yeah but i will have to cut them open ??? to get the old red filter out :-\
thats a bit of a pisser. No way to unscrew it?
-
nah they are sealed by the bezel on the front, i will have to knacker it completely to get it open. apparently there are, red green and white lighted ones available from standard. the audi mine came from had a red dash i spose ???
-
it looks ok tho, its not well loud and lairy, but if you get some then find out the colour first!
-
where did you get that pic?
-
if you get some they are a doddle to wire up and i got loads of heat shrink left ;D
-
Yeah I'll have some of the heat shrink tubing when your finished. I'll have to look for a set of green ones I suppose.
Gonna order one of those gauge panels from awesome.
Or I might fit them like this bloke has, I mean you wouldn't be able to tell they weren't factory fitted.
:o :o :o :o
