Title: Fuel Fillup light.
Post by: Creepy Coupe on 28 March 2007, 12:49
I was always under the impression the R32 had a 55 ltr tank, however after reading a suppliment that came with the handbook pack, it states 60 ltrs.

So today with only 25 miles left on the fuel trange display I was surprised the little fuel pump light didn't illuminmate. even after driving for 10 miles with 25 miles left dispayed, it still didn't light up.

I wondered if VW had fitted a bigger fuel tank, but had forgetten to inform the on board computer.
As I'd imagine the little fuel pump light works off of the float level and not what the OBC says.

I seem to remember from the Gti and Ed30 that I drove the fuel light came on around the 25-30 miles range to go.  Hmmm, seems strange, even if you have a bigger tank that the light still wasn't on at 25 to go.  Did you fill up then, or push on untill the warning came on?  If you did the former could it be that the alert refuel isn't working on your MFD?  Is it a highline or midline MFD?

I didn't fill up, and will try to get closer to home tonight, :undecided: light comes on when the ignition is switched on,if that means anything, and it's a highline comp.

I have had a big orange fuel pump sign come up on mine telling me i have to refuel - its just as annoying as the windscreen water level light!

Cant remember at what point (in miles) it comes on though

Yes I have the same, except it hasn't come on yet, well only when I first switch the ignition on.

Mine (GTi) comes on at 30 miles but i struggle to actually get 30 miles out of it. Partly as it keeps flashing up every minute and it's gets filled up just to shut it up.

Do you have a fuel can with you in the boot?  You might need it.  Seriously though, when you say it comes on when you turn the ignition on, does that also happen when the tank is full, or does it only come on now, with the tank nearly empty?

Yes I think it would come on for the few seconds it does, regardless of quantity, except of course if it WERE empty.
Working out the tank range, based on 25 mpg and leaving half a gallon in and a 55 ltr tank I should be able to cover 290 miles, and I've covered 296 so far.

Mine comes on at 40 miles every time.

How strange!! Definately at 30 miles it goes bong and the big fuel pump sign appears intermittently.

Hey.

As I was taking my TDI back it went bong with 45miles left (probably equivalent of 30 miles in petrol car!)

Must depend on which day of the week your car was built... 25 miles on a Mon, 30 miles on a Tue, 35 miles on a Wed etc etc etc!!

I'm sure the breakdown cover will be useful if you run out of fuel

I think the light coming on at 30 vs 40/45 miles is down to changes in the most recent ECU Updates.  Previously the light would come in my GTI at 45 miles, but since it recently went in and was flashed it comes on at 30 miles.

UPDATE..

Left work last night, with a 17 mile trip home and 25 miles too go showing, and no fuel light on, hit 20 miles left in tank, and fuel light came on, filled up with 5 miles to go showing, tank took 51.28 ltrs to brim it, or 11.29 gallons, the trip showing 315 miles, so MPG 27.9

I find that a bit pointless, when a car that does around 27 MPG has a fuel low light that comes on so late.later in fact then my GTi which came on at 45 miles to go, and did 33 MPG.

Very strange , and I agree with what you're saying.  Keep us all posted when it comes on again. Maybe, as it was the first time, the computer is still settling in due to the running in period and will come on earlier next time.  Or maybe I'm talking cobblers .  Interested to find out your next result.
