Title: Mark 3 speaker upgrades!! A lil advice needed!!
Post by: sbfatz on 27 March 2007, 20:48
Hey Everyone,

I NEED a lil bit of advice!...

I have a mark 3 gti and i NEED to upgrade my speakers as i have blown one of the standard cones!! oops

I have a pioneer DEH-P77MP which i know sounds the muts nuts, BUT not with my sh!tty standards!!

I was looking at getting 2 sets of 6.5" components both the same and just replacing the standards but i was also thinking of getting 1 set components and 1 set of 6.5" woofers!!

I don't really want a sub (at the mo ) i just want the best sound i can get without losing any boot space! thats for my staffy!! lol
I'm into sound quality NOT quantity.... don't get me wrong i love a bit of bass but i don't want to "blow the bloody doors off"....

I've seen a couple of sets of pioneer and alpine components! i'm don't want to spend loads but i was thinking maybe £100ish per set!!

So any advice would be hugely appreciated

look into rainbow or dls reference, if you dont mind a bit of ebay or car audio direct internet shopping, you will get more for your money going with these, whatever you spend.

DLS Reference and Rainbow are excellent kit, i've had a set of DLS for 8 years and transfered them from car to car - alwyas impressed by their build and sound quailty.

You don't mention budget tho - Alpine do component sets from around £100, which is where i'd start if money is tight.

I wouldn't get too carried away tho - you'll end up with the hifi costing more than the car !

if you want, its your risk, what did you mean in your first post about getting 2 sets of componants? what for? the problem with ebay is you rarely get what you see as far as car audio goes, they will pass off cheap tack with a sticker on as the real thing, sometimes its not even close, good bargain if its for real though. i have heared alpine componants before and have been far less than impressed by them, especially as for an extra 20 quid or so the bottom end dls and rainbow stuff become availiable and in my opinion anyway they will go way and beyond even the top range alpine. although alpine are good for sound quality which is what you say your after but still. I had a set of pioneers, they werent too bad. i like a bit of volume!!!

when i said 2 sets i mean;

1 set for front doors
1 set for back doors

i was gonna buy 2 sets the same but i don't know if i should buy two different!!!  :undecided:

MBQ PCE-216 a bit overkill imo - you can get DLS Reference sets in 6.5" for around £110 a set, and Rainbow or Diamond have similar priced sets too.

One option might be to use the better end of either companies products in the front and a lesser set in the rear.

If you're into sound quaility rather than quantity, why would you want to put rear speakers in?  Rear speakers are present in standard cars for the benefit of rear passengers, and won't improve your sound quality.

You'd be better off with 1 set of quality components, and a QUALITY amp to drive them.  If you still want some rear fill, you can run your existing speakers from the amp in the headnit.
