The car cuts out and read that its the ignition relay. I dont have a number '30' relay so what polistion should the '30' relay be? e.g. Top right 3rd one in??

Totally remove the ashtray from the dash board . Now there is a piece of black plastic above the cigarette lighter , this slides to the right .

chers mate
Ive found the relay. its right at the top and hard to see . Car runs when I tape relay so its deffo that

There are two white hooks on either side of the fuse/relay box
Flip those up and gently pull the thing down, this will give you better access.
Dont bother with the old #30 relay
Replace it with a new 'made in germany' one
Not online much m8 but Len405 will know what im on about

ok changed the relay for a brand new one
engine fired and then cut out again. not happy
I did look at the crank sensor?? the one thats got the connector on top of the engoine mount. The wires are almost bare and brittle.
I did unplug this when i got the engine to run and it cut off (just a test)
how much are these fookin sh!tty things?

does the engine cut out while your driving? it used to happen to my golf so i replaced the engine. does your revs go up and down when the engines cold?
-
A little bit drastic .

chers for the advice peeps
It was the damn sensor behind the engine mount! cost me about £115 on a trade account. still bloddy pricey and the only reason why im pissed off
Was awkward to fit as the engine mount had to be removed
Fired up and im going for a run. If it cuts out im burning the bastud
