???
I've just got myself a 1983 1.8 GTI, and I wanted to know what fuel I can to put in it.
I've done a bit of research on the net, and it looks like I can just pump Shell Optimax in, as it has a sufficiently high octane rating of 98 RON, which apparently is OK for all post 1976 Golfs.
The garage took this car as part-ex, and are unsure of the correct fueling
Can anyone let me know what fuels I can and can't use, and what would you recommend.
Cheers,
Keefus

Hi Keefus, I have run my MK1 gti's on unleaded with the ign timing adjusted and had no problems. Use optimax for best performance ;).

Yep - I have a 1.8 Mk1which is also quite happy on unleaded with its timing adjusted. I rang VW with the engine code and they were able to give me all the relevant info!
