Title: Panel filter info/help
Post by: ExEvo on 24 March 2007, 23:02
Hi
I have a Golf tdi 130 6 speed 52 reg i want an uprated filter should i get an uprated panel or an induction most say leave the induction kit and get a panel filter is this right ?
What is the best panel filter to go for because some are oiled and this is bad for the afm isn't it?
I have been told the green one is best because it is dry.

Any help or recommendations would be great.

Cheers
Tim.

Don't waste your money on an induction kit, only benifit on a petrol car is the induction roar. On a diesel all you get is a slight increase in turbo whistle.
I've got a K&N panel in my '53 Skoda 130 PD, she's still going strong 10k on.

Cheers for the reply.
Do you know if the K&N is an oily filter or is it dry.

I thought that the oiled ones were bad for the maf.

Cheers

i've also heard that u should avoid the oily ones and go for a cotton green as they are not oiled. but i'm not sure :undecided:

i'll stick with the standard 4 now

One of my mates at work has heard that as well, he's using a Green cotton one. As I mentioned, I've had mine on for about 10k with no problems. Well, MAF related problems anyway...
Incidentially the engine's an AWX.

Just wondering what's an awx.

Got a feeling that AWX denotes the engine code.

I think Bluefox has a Skoda Fabia VRS so it's pretty much the same engine as the 130 ASZ found in the Golf (as far as I'm aware!)

Incidentally I've got a 130 and just use the standard filter; seems fine with that; both rolling roads I've been on show her to be putting out 144 and 140 (obviously take the results with a pinch of salt!)

Is your car standard or have you got any mods?

think one member on here had a 150PD and put it on the rollers; put out near 180bhp or something along those lines!

Always handy having an extra 10bhp for nowt   whether or not the rolling roads are accurate are always open to speculation but if they are out (which is most likely) at least it gives a higher number so there's more chance of the car putting out what the manufacturer claims!

Yeah, AWX is the engine code - but I've actually got a Skoda Superb 130 TDI, my mum's got a Fabia VRS.
Incicentially, my engine's mounted north-south and mum's is east-west, so I'll assume the Fabia's engine is very similar to the Golf's. Did the ASZ have a six-speed box?
Ryhso, thought you'd had yours remapped recently?

yeah ASZ has a 6 speed box

not had it remapped; building up my no-claims at the moment as insurance is a bit of a killer   also want to sort the handling out first before i try putting any more power through the front wheels

i'm going to resurrect this thread as my car's due for a server in a few weeks at which point the air filter is going to be replaced, so naturally I'm thinking get a 'performance' panel filter

so what's the best to go for on the TDI's the oiled K&N or the dry green cotton?

price wise they are both about the same ~ £50

think the dry cotton one is your best bet.  Oiled filters tend to screw up the MAF in next to no time.

Haven't you learnt anything!!??  :lipsrsealed:

yeah changing pretty much anything can fook the MAF up

i'll have a look round the web and find out where the best place to get a green cotton one from is then, unless anyone has other recommendations for a dry filter

lol playing it safe then!

well the way i see it i'm going to be paying someone to put a new standard one in, so may as well spend a bit extra and get a 'performance' filter to help her breath better

just ordered a green one from potn, just hope it don't mess up the MAF

standard filter is only £12 and you can fit it in less than 5 minutes :afro:

yeah but i'm not planning on services mine myself.

the green filter is £43 with a million mile life span so, the same as 4 replacement standard filters, and it should improve throttle response and according to the website improve economy, i'll let you know how i get on!

well fingers crossed, i'll be getting better throttle response and economy from the green filter
