Looking at various mark 4 turbos, any help appreciated.
Are there any common faults to look for?
Got the chance of a 2000 model with no service history, sounds dodgy to me, can this be checked?
Also got the chance of a 51 plate 1.8 T but it was cat D damaged then repaired, can someone please tell me more about this as i know very little about it and how it effects the value? Cheers

First of all, welcome to the forum. Secondly, the search button is your best friend
The common faults question has been asked hundreds of times so you should find your answers pretty quickly.
Do they have a reason for the lack of service history? A lost service book, or DIY servicing are reasonable excuses. I personally stay away from CatD write-offs unless they are dirt cheap, because your insurer will give you sod all in the event of a total loss.

Thanks,
would it effect my insurance costs being a cat d? What sort of money do you think it is worth? I personally think it is cheap but im new to volkswagens. Cheers.

There's a good 'sticky' buying guide at the top of the section, BTW.
A Cat D will be harder to sell on!
I'd personally avoid them, but it's upto you.....
