Just got myself a spankin metallic blue R32 on Project Gotham only to get a hard time off Civic type R's !!!! :o Not happy!!! Please one of you lucky puppies who has a real life one tell me ITS JUST A GAME AND THEY KICK IT ROYALLY!!!!!! A guy's gotta dream!!! ::)
-
i don't have an R32 myself but cos of the weight of the mk4 its bound to be slow for the engine size. i don't no any figures but i would think that the civic is much lighter therefore quicker off the mark :-[ but the golf looks and sounds nicer so .............
-
my mate has got a type-r and he got a pasting when he tried to race an r32 off the lights, make no mistake R32's are quick as feck
-
R32 0-60=6.6 seconds
Type-R 0-60=6.8 seconds
According to what car
but according to the manufacturers they are both 0-62 in 6.6
so either way its really close, but i'd take the r32 speed and Comfort can't argue with that!
-
but isnt the type R 2wd ? R32 would absolutely walk it on the track.
-
R32's have style..........
not like that boy racer jap crap!!!!!
-
In a word, no, the 32 is not by any means slow.
Too much onus is placed 0-60 times, as they don't tell the whole story.
The golf is an admittedly heavy car, and the car has the inertia of a 4 wheel drive system to overcome, none of which blights the Type R.
Love him or hate, Jeremy Clarkson knows his cars, and he gets to drive plenty of machinery that we all dream about - the R32 is his favourite hot hatch, and I'm sure that's not without reason.
-
;D Wahoo!!!! There is a god!!! Just spoke to a friend of mine who's got a Mitsi Evo 7 and he was left for dead ON BENDS chasing an R32 but Evo's turbo had the advantage on the straights BUT he was impressed by the way it kept with him!! A rematch is on the cards and i will desperately try to bum a ride!!!! 8) Will keep you posted chaps but methinks the x box is closest to owning an R32 for a while!! Will have to slum it in the vr a bit longer!! :P
-
The R32 also has the sweetness of the 4 motion drivetrain ;D
-
not to mention the twin exit exhaust... which can cause orgasms at 50 paces
-
Type R = 6.6s to 60mph
R32 = 6.6s to 60mph
.. oh and the game was made by EA.. and there Japanese or American ... so there gonna favour the Japanese cars over the GERMAN ones! >:(
-
i love the r32 design lovely looking cars and the interior well to die for !! but as for the speed of them i dont rate them at all !! and i think at a standing start the civic type R would have it due to the weight of them ! but top end thats where the r32 would shine in all its glory !!
-
although i prfer the golf, the type are is 1. cheaper 2.lighter 3.good build quality and therefore i wouldn't mind an type R. i also like the design of it but it doesn't look as mean as the R32
-
also the type r has no turbo but i think the r32 does?
no turbo = no lag!
sanj
-
they are bringing out a new civic typeR with more power so u boys with an R32 best watch out and don't try to race them off the lights
-
no turbo on r32 m8 !!
-
Simon123, the new Tyope-R is already out, distinguished by the indicators in the mirrors. They have no more power but the clutch has been changed and the rear suspension geometry changed as the older ones have a problem with scudding out rear tyres after only 4000 miles. Honda are not bringing out a faster civic as they are turning their attention to the new integra type-r which is currently only available as an import in the UK at the moment.
As for the EVO 7 Lancer losing to an R32, I'm sorry i did'nt know stevie wonder had an Evo, whoever wa driving the evo needs to hang their head in shame, I like the R32 and respect it as a fast car, but it is not a patch on a lancer let a lone an Evo7 the last of the fast evo's. The R32 is quick but teh Evo is an out and out monster with trickery such a sYaw control so will out pace an R32 on the corners and the straights.
-
whoops i stand corrected i should have realised its 3.2 litres 200 and something hp
-
sorry i thought there was more power :o
-
I know both the R32 and the Evo's drivers and their not afraid to give it stick so all i can do is go off what ive been told. BUT the R32s styling will still look good in 10 years time like all of the golf marques, will the flying doorwedge civic still cut it then?I doubt it! look at a Starion or a Colt and early Lancers look dodgy :-[ Jap stuff is cutting edge and very well put together-now, but dates too quickly.
German styling is subtle but still cutting edge, remember mark 4 headlights with indicators inside? wow! Merc mirrors with indicators in? Audi mesh front ends?
French styling is robbing off the above and making it out of balsa wood and sticking a tractor engine inside!!! Saxo owners take note!! ;D
Final point, when you buy germanic you know that it won't drop money like a Saxo off a cliff and you will still get a decent few quid for it come upgrade time!!! 8) MMMM R32 please! ;)
-
i will post a pic this week of the most minging R32 in the world, it is sittingbourne and the guy has f**ked it, i will get a snap this week
-
i have to disagree with N_wales_vr6 regarding a few things.
firstly the depreciation of a german (vw) car. you have to pay upwards of ?800 premium (bog standard golf ) for it but after 3 years you will not get that back and the difference is perhaps only a few hundred quid compared to a japanese car. at the top end the civic is ?16k on the road, i'm guessing an r32 is somewhere between 18 and 20k that kind of premium will not be had back after 3 years.
the other thing is about style v reliability, the current mk4 is certainly not the most reliable car in the world, you only have to look at the JD power surveys and top gear and just about the whole of the top 10 is japanese cars (apart from the jag xj this year i think). for a car that used to be marketed on its reliability (mk2 advert with paula somebody and "if only everything in life was as reliable as a volkswagen), vw does quite badly. i think in 10 years every car will look old, there are a few exceptions though, audi tt i don't think that will age quickly and the toyota yaris, i think that shape willage slowly too.
i do agree about the french styling but i think its more renault with its quirky styling. i personally think the new citroen c2 looks quite nice.
just my 2 penceworth

HEy i disagrea. R32's are 22k upwards and yes they will hold a premium. you can pick up a civic type-r for 11000 now. the cheapest r32 which is now 1 yr old is list price. the r32 is a one off never to be repeated car. The R32 has all the mod cons standard.eg climate, headlight washers, heatedseats, xenons, cruise, rain sensor. the civic type r comes with sod all and basic aircon not climate costs ?1000 to have it as its not standard. r32 vs civic is not even fair on the tin can civic, r32 all the way. just way more class
Audi TT's. sorry starting to show their age now, the design is not timeless, compare the tt to the new RX-8 think you can tell which one is the newest, TT needs to be revamped, plus they are so dmn common, wheres the individuality
sorry

Back to my original question, is there anyone on this site who has an R32? and are they as dreamy as they look? Might post this on www.uk-mkivs.net too!
-
clearly the R32 is better but you have to give the civic type R a chance as it is no that bad looking and pretty quick for the price :P
-
Type R = 6.6s to 60mph
R32 = 6.6s to 60mph
.. oh and the game was made by EA.. and there Japanese or American ... so there gonna favour the Japanese cars over the GERMAN ones! >:(
Gotham was made by 'Bizarre Creations' and published by Microsoft. - to be very very pedantic :-\
Having licenced cars in a video game gets very political indeed, so biasing a manufacturer in a game that represents broad range of cars is just not on. The game is likely to require approval from the car makers hence the TypeR matching the R32 in game. This also prevents real cars from being proper smashed up in game.
Ferrari are the worst for this.
-
but surely there should be many laws against doing this. :-\
-
Now that would make it even more complicated.
Games developers just want to make games. We have to respect the percieved image of the manufacturers range and keep the powers that be happy, then everyones a winner.
:)
-
not really cos it can make some cars look bad surely ???
-
Back to my original question, is there anyone on this site who has an R32? and are they as dreamy as they look? Might post this on www.uk-mkivs.net too!
Yep, I own one! ;D Have done for about 7 months now and it still makes me smile and laugh like a looney when I drive!
No they are not slow. But they are not the fastest car in the world either. When comparing it to a Civic TypeR, you have to remember that the TypeR is FWD and the R32 is AWD, it is also up in weight and BHP and torque on the TypeR. So, I would say that 9 out of 10 times it would beat the TypeR in traffic light races, straight line and possibly cornering. Although it all depends on the driver of course.
Also remember that the R32's power is in a very useable power range. It pulls hard from under 1000rpm and doesn't quit until 6250rpm. As I understand it, the TypeR's peak power and torque come very high in the rev range, which will have an effect when 'racing' with an R32.
I can well believe that the R32 kept up with the Evo7! Although the EVo7 has more power and permanent 4WD, it has the dreaded turbo lag syndrome! This gives the R some sort of a chance.
Which would I choose, between the 3 (Civic, Evo and R32)? The R32 every time! Why, because it has been built for speed and comfort, whereas the other two are designed more for speed.
Anyway, with a few small mods the R32 can push out 300+ HP and lbft! That should be enough to give the Evo a really good run for it's money.

Que the heavenly choir whilst i rejoice!!! Thank you Jeffers for your reply to my quest for knowledge, what an awesome pic too they both look subtle yet purposeful! I had heard the R32 was about the same acceleration as a vr with all the extra weight they were carrying, but saw one again yesterday and it sounded as good as it looked so who cares!!
Will have to keep mine in its virtual garage in project gotham and compare with the forthcoming Gran Turismo 4 which i believe has all the vag range in it past and present!!! MMMM!! 8)
-
32 all the way :)
-
hey NJ, long time, no see.
Your car still keeping you amused then?
-
by the looks of that car i would say ir was :P
-
What can I say, to busy driving to keep up with the forums ;)
Car is now just over a year old, clocked over 21k, upgraded the exhaust to the new straight through Miltek.
Still a thumbs up from me, just gets better and better :)
