Can somebody please put forward the case for xenon headlights.
I’ve driven a number of cars (E-Class, 5 Series, Honda Civic but not a golf) with xenons and admit they are better than standard halogen BUT not £625 better.
What percentage of time per year do you have your lights on ? what percentage of this time do you spend under streetlights. This leaves a tiny proportion (for most townies) in the real dark, but even then how often do you think to yourself - I wish my lights were brighter I canÂ’t see?
I once had a Calibra and the lights were useless but the standard golf lights are ok
I can understand spending £625 on goodies eg improved stereo or Mutli Function Steering wheel as you the driver interacts (read plays) with these….. but headlights???
Have I missed something – I know they look different to the trained eye in the daylight but is it that they improve the aesthetics of the car when stationary?
Is it a one up thing  - I just don’t get it – half the cars on the road with xenons are Saabs, Vauxhall Omegas or Skodas.
I canÂ’t see that thereÂ’s a safety argument?
Still each to their own. Let me know what IÂ’m missing

weitec UK have offered to supply me with the above kit free of charge as the springs they supplied are too low on my car!
I know this is generous of them but I'm concerned that it will totally alter the way the car behaves. It must alter the handling!!!
Do I take a chance and fit it, I'll only lose my time in fitting or do I haggle for coilover kit???
TBH I don't like the sound of them - what do you think???

I have two ecu's for an abf, one pre 96 and one post 96.

Also have a set of abf cams forsale in good condition, they've just come out a running car, i could also have a head forsale shortly too.
I have the Mk3 2 litre 16v inlet manifold, both halfs top and bottom, plus fuel rail available
A mk3 abf powersteering pump
An 02A hydraulic cable change gearbox it came off a running car mk3 abf, said to have no problems, but haven't tested it myself (brought but never used)
And maybe a few other bits here and there to do with the abf engine.

I,ve opted for the 10 speaker audio pack and it works fine. Except that it doesnt play MP3's I specified this to the salesman who said they all play MP3's but according the the manuel it has to have a tiny MP3 logo on the front to do so. I shall be kicking off at him tommorow. Also VW couldnt get my nokia bluetooth kit to work so I've been sent to a place in Liverpool to sort thr problem out.
Apart from that its great :)
I'd send you a picture but I dunno how

got soem odd vibrating coming through the car, get to about 50 and it epaks and continues all the way thorugh, tis of quite a volume as well, and goes up and down with speed
have had suggestions of swap front wheels to rear and see what the difference is, im worried of it being a bearing somewhere or the front engine mount.. i think thats caused by reading aobut solid mounts though..
and of course we had so much out of the engine bay when it got swapped, maybe its time to check everything again, and tighten everything..
im also a bit worried aobut the elaky chock vie got one side.. wodnering if thats picking stuff up, oh and also had suggestion of a wheel weight being misisng, ive not had my tracking and camber setup at any point, so?
anyone?

The bog standard GTI with 18" alloys is a hugely better looking car than the Ed 30. Discuss?

Less than two weeks to go till my track day and the car is yet to be mot'd. So I decided to tackle the final job, the brakes.
List of tasks
1 - remove 239mm brakes and re-fit 256mm brakes with Green Stuff pads and ATE power discs.
2 - Fit new CV Boots.
3 - Fit braided hoses front and rear
4 - Fit new discs, pads and brakes lines on the rears.
Well I got as far as the front right brakes and that took me over 4 hours. A catalogue of problems caused untold difficulties.
1 - steering link would not budge, after repeated treatment with a blowtorch it came off.
2 - Couldn't get the CV knuckle off to replace the CV Boot but after some perseverance it came off.
3 - fitted new discs, calipers and carriers but had a major headache fitting the greenstuff pads. With the pads in and the caliper piston fully retracted it still wouldn't fit over the pads. After much swearing I bought some Ferodo pads from Halfrauds only to find that the Green Stuff pads are over half an inch thicker than the Ferrodo pads.
4 - Took me a while to figure out that my Goodridge hoses didn't fit cause of the extra piece of brake pipe that seems to have been fitted to the 16v calipers for no reason
5 - Steering linkage would ot tighten back up (still havn't figured it out).
That was the easy side. Tried the front left and after removing the caliper all looked ok. However the removal of the Hub nut was a different story. I've snapped 7 different tools and wrecked a perfectly good half inch drive ratchet. Damn.
So that's as far as I have got. Gutted and I'm running out of time.
BTW, any one got any tips on how to wind in the rear calipers without the aid of a "Special" tool?

Hi all, I (or should I say boyfriend) have just put a ported and polished head on my 1991 mk2 golf 16v along with some newman cams 264 inlet 272 exhaust.
The problem we have got is when you rev it is fine but on the come down it stalls, there are sometimes when it nearly dies but picks up again and will idle fine at about 1000rpm? When driving it is fine and there is no misfire just when you come to a junction it dies but then restarts and goes fine?
It was fine before we swaped the head, it also had new injectors. Could he have broken a wire of somthing? or upset somthing while doing the work?
Any ideas or suggestions would be of help.
Cheers Juliet

For sale, 5 14" Castellet style Alloys with tyres. These came from a VW Golf Gti Mk2.
The alloys are used and 4 are in ok condition with one in need of attention (the one without the centre cap in the pictures). The alloys will clean up well i am sure. They come with 4 centre caps all in good, useable condition.
The tyres are a mixed bag, so heres the complete information:
1 Intensa Sava (Polish) 185/60 R14 82H.
1 Tigar TG635 (Yugoslavia) Dito.
2 Sportiva G60 H (European) Dito. One is flat and one has a bulge.
1 Continental Winter Contact 185/60 R14 82T.
All the tyres have very good tread and don't look to have been used much at all. Apart from the information noted above about the Sportiva tyres the Intensa tyre has a few concerning things stuck in the treads but it isn't flat.
Email or post on forum for pictures or information (wdavies_2@hotmail.com). Please feel free to come and view the tyres/alloys, email me or ring 01782 620833. I am located in Newcastle under Lyme near Stoke, just of the M6 Junc 15.
These are currently on ebay with pictures: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250094523153&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=015
