im looking to buy a vr6 now ive found one hes told me that the Cylinder head completely rebuilt @88k mls (valve stem oil seals failed, due to 4mths inactivity). is it possible ? its a vr6 94reg 5dr also where do i find the engine number ?
-
doubt it not after just 4 months, ask to see bills to prove it, if he says him and his mates did it or something i would steer well clear! it is possible though, if the engine was totally out of oil, like run dry! cant really help with the engine number though im afraid, possible locations include, on the timing (cam) belt cover, on the id plate thing on the inside of the door, stamped onto the block itself ( could be just below two of the plugs) or on a plate somewhere in the engine bay. it will be in a few places anyway, the idea is to try to match a few of them up, if possible match them to the chassis number too ( it wont be the same number as the chassis number obviously but the log book or VW sales docket could help here)

nice one will call him today and see if hes got the paper work for the rebuild before i make the trek to devon cause i would go mad if it turned out to be a crap

yeah, good move! why is it being sold? just be real careful if its a 'me and the boys did it' kind of set up, they may have an alterior motive for selling it, its always better to have some bills as they provide some comeback.
hpis only check for stolen and possible right offs but not all right offs go through insurance, so hpi in this sense is a bit useless.

there is plenty of good solid vr's out there at the moment to make me think it would be wise to walk away from this unless it's cheap. But remember you get what you pay for in this game. Take a mechanic or like minded friend with you when you look but look with your head not your heart otherwise it can get very expensive!
Cheers
