What Car says the ED30 will depreciate almost as fast as the normal Gti.
My 24K Gti has deprecated to about 16K in two years which I dont think is very good considering all the hype about them holding value at the time.
Any thoughts out there on what my £23K ED30 may be worth over the next few years.
Should we really buy now when all the hype is hear or wait a year or so until something else comes along?
Will there be many for sale in a years time.......
Thoughts?

Well in a year's time I think the MKVI will be upon us so all the hype for the Ed30 will be over.
That doesn't mean that they will depreciate quicker though as the MKVI GTI will be some time coming yet...

When I was talking values with my dealer, he told me that he is confident that Edition 30 cars will be worth between £1,500 and £1,700 more than the standard Golf GTi, which he says is about the same difference there is between Anniversary MK IV Golf GTi's and the standard GTi. I got £15,500 for my 2 year old GTi in p/x for the Edition 30, which taking car tax vat etc off, which you must always do, doesn't mean a great loss was incurred. If you were to buy a Renault, Ford, etc even the " performance " models, you would know what a hit was then :cry:, Golf Gti's are much better retaining their value, look around you and you will see what I mean. If my dealer is any wheres close to being right, then buyers of the 30 will have got the upgraded model almost free of gratis :smug:. This is all just my opinion but all good for discussion eh

once you've driven one...who cares what it's worth!! I've been fighting with this argument for weeks and now I've got one I don't care as the car is soooo good!
In the long run, it depends on how you look after the car, if you treat it like a shed, it will be a shed and not worth much money.
As many have said, if you're worried about saving money, or want xenons, buy a GTI or an import.
If you want something "slightly" more unique BUT with a little more power, buy an Ed30, you won't regret it :grin:

I imagine the ed30 will always carry a premium, but perhaps not to the same extent as the mk4. I think the mk4 anniv was a special case as it looked fantastic next to the dowdy mk4 Gti - whereas the MK5 GTI looks pretty good on its own.
Re. the residuals, I always think so called 'low depreciators' are overhyped. With the Golf Gti there was a double whammy - no discount and most owners upspeccing. If the % retained was based on the actual spend, I think we'd see all the bread and butter Fords doing much better as they are bought for well below list - and if you buy a Boxster / Mini / Golf Gti totally basic, you will be offered less than trade - which infers that the trade value builds in some optional extras which are not considered when calculating the impressive % retained.

there might have been hype about the GTI's not depreicating, but that information probably came from the stealers. anyone worth their salt in the trade knows that as soon as there is a good supply of second hand cars out there, the values will drop.
I think people buying the Edition 30 who think it will mythically hold its value more than any other VW are mistaken. Granted there may be less of them, but when Mr. Joe Public goes to guy a second hand GTI in a few years time, he isnt going to worry about an 30 extra BHP, especially if he has to pay more for it.

I fully agree. I experienced an identical scenario when trading in my S4. Even though both leather and SatNav were £Â£Ã‚£ options, all the traders, and the Glasses Guide, include both by default, and actually knock £1k off for each that is missing! :shocked:
