Title: Running power cables for subr in a Mk 4 GTi TDI
Post by: dinkyd on 13 March 2007, 16:53
Hi All,

I've got a mark4 golf TDI GTI (150bhp 53 reg). I'm keen to get the sounds wired in but can't find a gromet to run the power cable. Can someone point me in the right direction, cheers.

Pics would be usful if you've got them.

Thanks

No need for gromet. Below the steering wheel, next to the fues box, if you take off the trim you will find a positive, an earth and an ignition point where you can take all the power you need for your sounds  sorry no photos Hope this is clear

what amp are you plannning to install? and where is it going, you may want to reconsider using those points.

not got a clue im afraid, never done a mk4 if you give me a while i could find out because someone i know has one, those points though, seriously if its a half decent sized amp as alpines normally are, in fact almost any amp will need a proper power cable of a given thickness. because of this all the wire to the battery needs to be this thickness or you will effectivly get like a bottleneck effect, the standard wiring will not be thick enough i suspect. this is where i have gone in my mk3.

under the car may be an option if a grommet is really unavailable, ill look into it.

As mentioed, running amp power feeds from sources other than the +ve termpinal is a bad idea. That said, most (recent) Skoda's seem to have a "power bar" on the bulkhead. Is this the thing you're referring to, Gtisteve?
Sorry, I've not worked on a mk4 myself. Although one of the guy's I work with runs a couple of Audiobahn subs via an amp with 4awg wiring and he's got a drect feed to the battery is his Bora, so it's obviuosly possible to get a wire through.
