Title: boot carpet
Post by: vw-bob on 13 March 2007, 10:48
ive recently put a space saver wheel in the boot to give me a flat boot space in my driver. but then thinking that the carpet is shaped to fit the wheel that sticks up into the boot area. thought wouldnt be a problem, just remove the carpet, use a template onto a sheet of thin MDF or similar, and then re-carpet.

but when i tryed to remove the existing carpet i found it was attached to the carpet that runs under the rear seats. i did think about cutting the carpet as close to the seats as possible so i could remove the back bit. but was affraid that in removing the back section i would create problems further forward on the carpet, e.g. the carpet would become slack.

so i thought i had better check with you guys and gals before cutting my boot to shreads!!

1. You can buy a flat carpet specifically for a space saver, all GTIs had them
2. Simply tilt the rear seat forward, and remove the carpet

i thought the carpet went right through, as an all in one section. i might try and pick up a gti boot carpet then
