Title: fuel pump priming on gti, when ignition goes on
Post by: theruler on 12 March 2007, 17:42
you know when you switch on the ignition, and the pump whirrs for a second, then stops?
well, when the pump doesn't come on like that, and has to be on a seperate switch, why is it?

what stops it working off the ignition?

i have had this in the past on my mk1 gtis, but it was a good while back before internet

i can only think of dodgy wiring but i have never heard of you having to have it that way, the relay in the fuse board should sort all that out.

there should be a relay that handles this, it sounds like someone has bodged the wiring to it!  If someone has wired it to a switch this is very dangerous, as in a crash the fuel pump could carry on running and spray petrol everywhere!
