i think thats an aftermarket one, as factory fitted are mainly slide back and the panel isn`t glass it`s metal and the same colour as the car

standard ones are metal and slide into the roof, what you have there is an aftermarket one!

Be very carefull with aftermarket sunroofs, anything gets broken and youll have to repair it! because you almost certainly wont get spare parts

i thought it was leaking as the material which covers the screw holes was rotten and comming apart, so i ripped the rest off, also i managened to fcuk up the glass. the sun roof will have to come off when the car gets sprayed, is it worth me putting it back in with used seals or get a standard sunroof with new seals and everything?

If you're going to get it sprayed anyway if I were you I'd put in another roof.  If you decide to go with a std VW sunroof get yourself a scirocco tilt n slide sunroof as well

As in chop out the old roof panel and weld in another without a horrible aftermarket roof hole :)
You wont be able to fit another std VW sunroof in your car, all they've done is chop a dirty great hole in a non-sunroof car.  The cars with a sunroof ahve a completly different roof panel with drain holes & guttering etc inside.

Thats not a genuine VW scirocco roof either, its another horrible aftermarket jobber. The OEM VW sliding roof is a steel panel, just like the std MK1/2 sliding roof, apart from it tilts as well

A standard factory fitted sunroof (OE), has a winding handle that when operated, drops the panel down a few cms, and then retracts backwards on runners, in between the headlineing, and the roof itself..  the roof panel on a car that is fitted with a O/E sunroof, is a completely different panel to one that is not fitted with a sunroof.. ie, if you wanted to fit a factory sunroof to your car , you cant! You hve 3 options.. 1, you bodge your existing sunroof.  2, you fit a larger aftermarket sunroof (best option)  3, you cut off your entire roof! and locate another Golf that has a O/E roof panel... and that really is more trouble than its worth!
Tom
RJ, sorry to go over what you just said, I just thought id try and explain from a different angle..

Yeah sorry if I wasn't more clear, but yes you need a new roof if you want to fit a tilt & slide setup.  Check out this project:

Depends how much money you want to spend at the end of the day, and how good your bodyshop is!
