Title: Does this sound like WUR to you??
Post by: Dub-77 on 11 March 2007, 18:51
Hi got yet more probs with my 1990 1800 16v. After fitting a new dizzy, coil, plugs, cap, rota arm, ignition module, cleaning out the throttle body, cleaning out the isv, cleaning the earths, checking all the vacumes, checking for air leaks setting up the timing by the flywheel marks I finally got the old girl running sweet no misfires untill yesterday when i started it up was running for say 30secs then it started running rough revs dropping down it would rev up freely but idle was rough and if i tryed to drive it the throttle was so sensitive it was almost stalling.
This will last untill the car reaches a warm temp then it would be fine drives ok. So i turned it off left it for 3 hours and tryed it again started on the button ran for 20-30 secs then started playin about again same as before....
Does this sound like WUR to you guys????

Cheers
Darren

get a fuel pressure guage and test it - you can then do the wur mod as well and gain a few horses!!!

There are a couple of wurs on ebay at the mo!

I think you need to measure the system pressure, to make sure the fuel pump etc.. is in good health, then set the control pressure with the allen screw in the back of the wur.

Or maybe the thermotime sensor????
I've read that this sensor controls the cold start and the WUR is this correct???
As I said the problem is not the starting at the moment its about 30secs after its fired up then it really seems to misfire and virtualy imposible to drive then 5-7 mins later bang its fine????

thermotime possibly - i think this measure engine temp and initiates cold start/running procedures...?

like cold start injector, for a few seconds, I think the WUR looks after itself, as it heats up from its own heater and engine heat soak it naturally increases the fuel pressure to normal operating pressure - pressure is lower at cold start.

there is also the oil temp sender going to the ECU, not sure what this does (other than tell ecu how hot the oil is  )

where is RJ when you need answers eh

Just to update the thread I got it sorted
It was a broken wire on the temp sensor(s) on the side of the head the red and green wire was hangin on by 1 thread at the connector, cut it off and crimped a blue spade terminal on then checked the others and found the blue and white wire was on its way as well so i done that 1 as well.
So today at work I resetup the timing and CO2.
Now I got a WUR for sale if anyone needs one let me know....

excellent news mate!

and nice to have an update, maybe I'll recrimp all my oil temp senders, one was bodged a local garage ages ago, a yellow crimp on those tiny wires - can't make a good connection eh!!!

I could do with a piccy of which oil temp sender does what - a side on piccy of the blovk with senders labeled up - anyone know where one is at???

For the Golf 16v, it's ....

Water Temp Senders:

Blue/White - Ignition ECU.
Green/Red - ISV Control.
Yellow/Red - Dashboard Gauge.

Oil Temp Sender:Round the back from the other 3 sensors

Green/Black - MFA Oil Temp
