Hi everyone
My first car, a renault clio automatic, has just died and gone straight to hell for being such an unreliable, uninspiring, horrid little car.
Anyways i am now looking for a golf and i have just seen advertised just down the road a 1996 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 2.0 GTi Colour Concept 5dr Hatchback Special Eds. It has a FSH and the mileage is under 100k.
The price being asked is £2350 which when compared to parkers valuation of £1750 (this is for a 1997 model not 1996) seems a little steep. I have read it is hard to find a bargin with Golfs. I guess my question is do you normally have to pay over the odds for golfs? What do you think of the price?

Colour Concepts are a bit rare and sought after so they hold their price well. That wont be reflected in a Parkers guide.
Its not a bad price, bit high so try getting him down a bit.

Thanks for that Len405. I thought that might be the case.

There are bargains out there mate, you just have to find them!
If you really fancy a CC then go for it. Generally you wont lose much money on it.
But if you just want a Gti then try and find a decent 16v coz they are faster anyway!

I think as the years go on CCs will be more and more sought after. So if you're thinking about it for a long term motor, don't worry about paying a little bit more for it. I paid about that for mine about 2 years back and I know I got a bloody excellent bargain.... But it's not like a normal GTI in that there are bits you need to spend time keeping on top of - the bits that make it special. So look after the paint, the leather, the a, b and c pillar trims, the wheels, the steering wheel and gearknob etc... You won't find any of these items ANYWHERE if they're broke, so look after them!
But yeah, what Len said. An 8v mk3 is not the quickest by a long shot. If I could, I'd have a 16v to poke about in and keep the CC in the garage more often.
