Thanks to all members who have commented. I know it's a long shot but this car is 3 door Laser Blue (not many around) and was stolen between 4pm and 5pm at Odyssey Gym Woburn Common nr High Wycombe Bucks. 5 lockers were broken into , keys and wallets taken and my car was obviously preferred by the thieves. It was an indulgent gift to myself following my wife's death late January 2007. I would be most gratefull if you could keep an eye out and if ever you see it report it to the police.
Thank you all
Geoff

sh!te year so far then Mate, I really sorry for you. these things are sent to try us.
-
oh god, what a bunch of thieving wa.kers, fingers crossed the police find it, hopefully it turns up quickly, do the police feel confident in finding it? have they said anything?
-
Cheers Phil -no the police regretfully have not show much interest so I am not holding out much hope. The car was absolutely spot on what I wanted and at the moment I am as you can imagine pretty hacked off. Still I can claim one of the fastest ever GTi's...here Monday gone Thursday. Looked stunning with the
lifeshine and all my golf gear was just sorted for retirement. Well at the end of the day it's only metal , no one hurt and if I have found one after a few weeks there must be others around that will fit the bill. Some friends are saying get a "sensible" car next time... well I enjoyed the short time with the GTI so I may not take their advice. Going to take a big hit on the insurance though-trade price etc. Ho hum life goes on.

Sorry to hear about the theft Geoff, I haven't been on here a while and it seems just a couple of weeks you were talking about buying one!
Best of luck with the insurance co.

Sorry to hear about your bad news. Hope you get things sorted.
-
Awful, awful news. :(
As for your insurance, remember to be as big a bastard to them as you possibly can - get evidence of the true cost to replace your car (dealer quotes, adverts etc), then less your excess and reject lower offers they make in payment, based on the evidence you supply in writing.
Remember you are paying insurance to cover the cost of replacement of your vehicle (less your excess) - not how much it is worth trade in or in some dodgy Glasses guide from 2 years ago.
I am not saying you will get everything, but wouldn't you prefer to only be a grand out of pocket instead of 3 or 4? (just random numbers, but you know what I mean!)
Best of luck and remember - shy bairns get nowt!

Definately true, hold out for the best offer and do your homework. It's a like for like car you should be able to buy (less your excess)

Take a look at my response in the previous thread: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=55839
And forget the "trade price" - like-for-like is the only thing you should expect, and nothing less.
The VIN and engine numbers would be handy to post too, as the Reg number probably will have been changed!
Regarding the "sensible car" - to do that, well you'd be giving in to the thieves. Anyway, you bought the GTI for a specific reason, if you don't get another GTI, you will probably be being disrespectful, to the memory of your wife.
Warmest regards.

Not sure I agree with the phrasing, but the sentiment is probably right. I always think that (God forbid) if anything happened to my wife, she would be looking down and wanting me to be happy. If having your GTI made you happy, you should do what you can to get another. Obviously women never want you to spend too much money on cars, but I am sure you should be able to sort your insurance. ;)
This is one of those situations where I wish I were a very wealthy bloke, as I would say, "feck it -- you have had a rough year already...have my GTI".

Blowers, might be worth checking your insurance policy details, as a mate of mine was offered GAP insurance by his dealer, only to find he already had RTI on his own cover for the first year.

Agree with that wholeheartedly. Since I've ordered the GTI a few people have mentioned the theft risk and I've though the same each time - I'm not going to avoid having nice things just in case someone nicks them.
Sorry to hear of your awful start to the year Blowers, hopefully things will start to picl up.
-
I just phone my insurance co, MORE THAN, and they will replace my car for a brand new one, if it's a total loss, up until it's 12 months old. should the worst happen.
Worth checking with your Blowers.

Thanks Creepy . Mines over 12 mths. I am up for battle with the Insurers as and when ready thanks to the moral support and advice from fellow members here!
Latest news is that there is now finally a police "owner" of the case and one of the people who lost their wallet has already had their bank account "attacked"
The believe is that my car was taken as an easy getaway and whilst this was not kids ...neither was it professional car thieves, who would not have gone to the risks of breaking into lockers. So they do suspect the car will turn up sometime- trashed? burnt out? abandoned? who knows. It could of course be worse for me to have the car recovered in a bad state rather than it be ing totalled! Will just have to sit and wait.
Above all I just hope they catch the thieving b's so they don't do this to someone else
-
What goes around comes around. They will get what they deserve. Its really just a matter of time.
-
Yes I agree with that. I know all the GTI owners on this site will also be wishing them ill as well.
-
Yes blowers, keep us all informed on the latest, we are all thinking of you and hope News is soon.
-
Well the latest info is that it was spotted on one police camera, believed on its way to Hertfordshire where within one hour of the car being stolen a credit card froom a wallet taken from another locker was compromised. There was in fact one eyewitness to the drive off and Video camera evidence also showing that a VW parked next to mine was blipped before they matched my car to the stolen keys.
So anyone in the Hertfordshire area please now keep an eye out for laser blue GTI. The more I think about this- the more I want them nicked before they have the chance of messing with some other law abiding citizen!!! None of us should have to put up with this kind of stuff.

Any news?

Hi Guys, is Blowers still on this site? Do you know what ended up happening with his car? I went to see a GTi on saturday which has turned out to be this car! Just trying to get a decent HPI on the car again now to see when and where it turned up.
Any advice is appreciated!
Thank you
