Title: What alternator will fit?

I have a 1990 8v GTI Digi....what alternators will fit and work on it, any from a MK3 GTI, MK2 GTI 16v etc? Its just that trying to find an alternator for a 1990 8v GTI is proving tricky, so if any other Golf alternator will fit it will make my search so much easier!

I've heard of people using the diesel one so they get more amps but thats all i know i'm afraid.  :sad:

only 8v ones will fit, the 16v ones are different.  A passat is more likely to have a bigger alt, and diesels as said.
Make sure its around the same era as your MK2, the later ones are completly different!
