My car doors were frozen shut this morning.
It was not the lock, but the actual door frame that was stuck.
A bit of warm water poured over sorted it.
Is this normal on the mk3, my mk2 never done this.
should i put some WD40 on the door rubber, or is there something else that prevents it.

I had the exact same problem on my 5dr Mk3 a few weeks ago, ended up climbing in the back door! After about two minutes driving all the doors opened fine.
I tried spraying halfords night before de icer on the rubber a couple of times before heavy frosts and that seemed to do the trick, but i'm sure that stuff is not good for door rubber or paint work so a better solution would be good.

My boot was frozen as well as the doors or i would have climbed in through there. Bizzare
Didn't fancy using WD40, it smells a bit rank.
I think your correct about the de-icer damaging the rubber,
I might try a bit of shaving gel or something like that on the door rubber.
if it works i can say 'gillette.....the best a door can get' 8)

Yeah, i might have a look round the house for other stuff, tomorrow promises to be even colder! I can't afford to waste time in the morning as i refuse to get up any earlier for work.
Talking of cold weather, i went skiing in Andorra last week, i saw loads of Mk3 Golf GT TDis. Never seen one in the uk, but they seem poular in europe for driving up snowy hills!
They had the same trim as GTis, lights, plastic wheel arch things etc, except the interiors were a bit "continental", odd seat patterns and colours.

Someone at work has a MK4 TDi,
the diesel engine has masses of torque, and gets approx 46MPG.
prefer mk3 shape though

My colleague gets the same prob on her new BMW330ci, *hahaha*, gutted.
What Ive done is close an old bed sheet in and over the door, have it hang out the bottom, dont cover the door catch of course. Looks well jippo, but hey, the door opens when its arctic :)
......not a good idea if its gonna piss down tho!!

.........probably very illegal, but is there a device out there to start the car by remote??
Would solve the frozen door thing and get the car nice and warm before the commute.

^ yes there are, and they're not illegal.
clifford do one. they ensure your car is out of gear n all that kinda stuff.. so it doesnt drive off, lol. quite pricey from what i remember

Nice idea, having the engine warming the car, while you sit in the house, nice and warm. Bet the first time you use it some copper would ticket your car though - its illegal to have an engine running without a driver in the seat - (I'm not bitter about the jobsworths in the traffic police department in the slightest)

I suppose you cant get just a remote start due to it all being linked to your alarm and immobiliser.
