Fair chunk of its gone is there anything else to look at before whipping a new one on & tightning it up??? Bores look fine.............Ive got a spare block & heed sat in the shed, not sure what to do!!! Head was last done 10 months before it failed again, under 10k!! Work was carried out by quite a large well known garage (not saying its been done wrong) but what could cause this???

Get your head skimmed before refitting!

i don't think they fully tightened the headbolts, or didn't use new ones. also get a g60 headgasket, they're about £35-£40 but are proper heavy duty.

Definately get the head skimmed and check that the deck is not warped too. Also, make sure that the head locating pins on the deck, (top of the block) engage properly into the head. If they are corroded or the pin holes in the head are corroded, the head may not torque down properly.

Thanks for the replies, the heads got a sizable chunk out of it aswell.....ive not chacked the tolarences but think its not usable. So im working with the spare head ive decided. Just need to get the valves refaced & cut into the head.
Whats best to clean up the head & block surfaces...ive got some degreaser but its not really doing much good!!

I used diesel to clean my head, followed by a Karcher pressure washer, then dried it with compessed air. Came up like a new pin.
