Title: Headlight Help Required
Post by: percymon on 05 March 2007, 13:43
Damn blast, why do i not leave thigns alone - if it ain't broke, then don;t touch it

Decided to change the headlight bulbs (H4, single reflector) - removed the cap at the back of the headlight bowl and started wrestling with the bulb clip - it was very tight, and unable to get the clip over the retainers on the top by pushing down as described in the manual.

So with a bit of brute force and ignorance i decided to try to lift the clip over the retainers, only to be met by a sharp snappign sound and now the white plastic inner of the headlight is loose on the lower / outer adjuster      Headlight beam is now somewhat downward !

Question - have i broken the unit ?, in which case can i just buy the inners without the headlight glass etc ?  or have i been lucky and just popped out the adjuster screw from the unit ???

If its the latter is it possible to reattach the inner to the adjuster screw arm without disassembling the whole headlight unit ?

Whipped the front grille off and took headlamp out this evening - once i'd got it out i could see that i'd stripped the up /down adjuster screw out of the plastic inner housing - i couldn;t get the thing anywhere near back to connecting, so gave up.  It also looked like someone tried to get in previously through the front of the headlamp, with screwdriver marks around the glass lens.

Never mind, brute force and 10 years of embrittlment due to heat finished it off - will pick a new one up from ECP tomorrow for £23, not worth bothering with ebay by the time i pay the postage, or chasing round the local scrappies.

At least while i was in there i found the paint code (L3CL) on the inner arch, and then found the sticker in the rear boot staring me in the face lol!
