These are a few pics I was gonna put into another thread, but I didnt wanna hijack it.
So Veedubgti8v, heres those pics, there from last summer before I got my original bodykit sprayed and I had my old front spoiler on too.

http://www14.brinkster.com/gti16v/My%20GTI.jpg (http://www14.brinkster.com/gti16v/My%20GTI.jpg) <---newest pic from around September last year. New front spoiler and bodykit sprayed.
...I would've liked a better backdrop, but I didnt have time, so you'll have to make do with my driveway. ;)
Remember, please Cut & Paste the images into your web browser, as clicking them usually wont let you see them. Thanx

Very Nice
Looks mint
-
Yeah shes my baby... 8v or not, ya dont find many mk3's that are as clean!
-
why dont ya put it in the gallery :)
-
Aint got around to it yet
-
well nice mate! looks like a beaut! looks better with the new spoiler aswell! nice one mate :)
-
looks better with the new spoiler aswell
AT LAST!!!! someone who agree with me!!!!
I hated the old spoiler and i dont like the VR6 version either (2 piece) so I opted for the "sports version" or whatever its called.
And then I just got the remaining kit sprayed as I couldnt afford the ?300+ for the sides and back lol...
anywayz, soon ill have my smoked fogs and indicators and it'll look sleeker!
-
Everyone agrees that the Mk3 8v is SLOW ;D
-
and we all know this too: -
1: The mk4 8v is slower
2: The mk3 8v is great when ya 18
3: ... enuff, the jokes old already
-
Biting again..... :D
-
and ill continue, cos i can justify owning an 8v
1: cant get any higher insurance
2: commuting 10miles to work doesnt require a super fast car
3: GTI badge is proudly displayed
4: anyone who gets in it thinks its a ferrari cos it wears a GTI badge and they dont know the difference
5: Most people i've spoken to think the GTI is faster than a VR6 cos its a GTI
yes thats not correct, but I dont care, they think I drive a super car! WOOT
-
What a thingy you are :D
-
did u type
p?nis, c0ck, d!ck, kn0b or another variant in there?
tut tut... bad behaviour for a mod.
-
The 8v rocks, Low down torque good
I've had most cars off the lights, clutch control
16v is also good but you have to rev the nuts off it to get the most out of it.
8)
-
how much power does the 8v have?
-
Here you go;
Golf GTI 8v Golf GTI 16v
bhp 115 150
torque 166 Nm at 3200 rpm 180 Nm at 4800 rpm
you have to rev the 16v an extra 1600 rpm to get to the max torque, so an a day to day drive the 8v torque is more accessable.
Cham'one - check ya bad self 8)
-
Here you go;???
Golf GTI 8v??? Golf GTI 16v
bhp??? 115??? 150
torque??? 166 Nm at 3200 rpm 180 Nm at 4800 rpm
you have to rev the 16v an extra 1600 rpm to get to the max torque, so an a day to day drive the 8v torque is more accessable.
Cham'one - check ya bad self 8)
hang on..
its kinda stupid to say "well to get the max torque out of the more powerful car you have to do more" because the GTI "getting its max torque" doesnt equate to the same thing..
of course filling up a smaller bucket is going to be quicker/require less effort ;)
but do they fill at the same rate?
So how much to get the *same* out of both cars.. ?
-
Golf GTI 8v??? Golf GTI 16v
bhp??? 115??? 150
torque??? 166 Nm at 3200 rpm 180 Nm at 4800 rpm
So the 8V has a power to weight of around 110 bhp per ton???
Oh dear..
-
Keep hanging on....
You could have a high powered engine that does not produce a lot of torque. (if it was not efficient - some big american cars)
To do a direct comparison from we need to look the the BHP and torque characteristic curve of both cars, then you can see the torque at a given RPM across the entire rev range and compare.
My point is that the 8v torque curve is higer than the 16v in the lower rev range, so more accessible in day to day driving. :)
-
i wanna see a graph :)
get some 8vs 16vs and a vr6, all stock off and get the bits of paper so we can knock this on the head forever... everytime this comes up all the mk3 8v owners get all super defensive and then start claiming they're faster than vr6s let alone the valvers.
what does more accessible mean? that means you can get at more of whats there easier, because there isnt much there..
-
Patience young skywalker.........
I've been trying to find a graph.
More accessible means that the torque is there, without revving the guts out of it, and kanning the juice. :o
Dont get me wrong, i like 16v's i used to have one. :)
-
i'm gonna have to try race an 8v.. i know i can rape em on the mway.. lol
good luck with the graphs :)
-
Ok mate,
I'm having difficulty findnig these graphs, (anyone??)
I might draw my own (on the sly), showing huge 8v torque
:)
-
haha.. i had look before too.. not much luck.
where did those figures come from?
-
Done a search on Google : 8v Golf gti
or something like that, have to look some more :)
-
the 8v doesn't have more torque than the valver. it has has a different power curve on both bhp and tq. The valver and VR have more torque than the 8v.
The VR6 is the same as the 8v, but with 2 more cylinders... Still got 1 inlet, 1 outlet valve for each cylinder, just has 2 more. therefore obviously more power. The 8v may seem better because of that 'instant' power/torque you get during normal driving (2500-4500rpm range).
The valver has 2 smaller inlet and 2 outlet valves making it 'more revvy'. it doesn't create less torque than the 8v or the VR, just creates it higher up the rev range. Which is usefull for overtaking and 1/4 mile runs. yes?
The mk3 8v gti is A LOT heavier than the comparitive mk1 and mk2 8v gti's. even though they produce similar power the power to weight is a lot different between the 3. To say the mk3 8v is faster than the VR is total BS. The VR is so much faster end of.

Cheers for clarifying - In essence 8v Better day to day driving :D

Done a search on Google : 8v Golf gti
or something like that, have to look some more :)
got it...
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/1019/golf_mk3.htm
the full table goes..
Golf GTI 8v Golf GTI 16v Golf
bhp 115 150
torque 166 Nm at 3200 rpm 180 Nm at 4800 no data available
acceleration (0-100) km/h 10,1 s 8,3 s
Top speed 198 km/h 215 km/h no data available
-
Nice one,
There's no graph to show the full curve.
I think Dizzie was spot on with his appraisal.
Easiest option.
Buy a R32 - blast everyone
:)
-
just so no one gets me wrong. I drive an 8v all the time and I love it to bits. It revs well all the way to the red line. When I drove the pug 206 180gti I hated it cos there wasn't as much torque as I would of liked lower down the revs, but once it was over 4500rpm it was a rocket. it's the same with honda's Vtec. Just wait until that winds up!
back to the mk3 vs anything else 'fight'. It's all down to power to weight ratio. Why do you think bikes are so fast when they only have 900cc engines :)
If you want modern power for your mk1/2 there are a number of options to suit every driving style and future power hikes.
bottom line:
8v lower tq curve - better for daily driving
VR faster (and heavier) version of the 8v
16v better reving with a higher tq curve. more tuneable
20v similar to the valver
turbos, supercharghers and NOS. Just more fun at the end of the day ;D
-
the vr engine is nothing like the 8v engine.
it is a 15 degree V not a straight 4
the vr feels more like a valver with more low down torque, ultimately most of the torque is quite high up the rev range.
-
The mk3 16v DOES NOT get to 60mph in 8.3secs....it gets to 60 in 8.7secs.
Check your owners manual.
-
The mk3 16v DOES NOT get to 60mph in 8.3secs....it gets to 60 in 8.7secs.

just want to quote this..
defensive sod arent you...
-
The mk3 16v DOES NOT get to 60mph in 8.3secs....it gets to 60 in 8.7secs.
Check your owners manual.
Yeah but what does the Mk3 8v do?? 0-60 slower than most family saloon cars.
-
0-60 slower than most family saloon cars
Its quicker than Zetec Mondeo's, Primera's etc
but wait a sec...
lets bold this one
THE 16v IS SLOWER THAN FAMILY SALOONS... HONDA ACCORD, FORD MONDEO ST220, WAIT FOR IT .... MG ZS180!!!
;)
-
If you want to quote 8.7 sec for the 16v
then the 8v is 10.9 sec
Check your owners manual :D
-
why does this fool slag off 16vs for being slow.. when he drives a tank? you're way over defensive.. it aint even funny.
1) the times quoted on sites out there and that includes this one (which quotes 8.5) have taken their time from roadtests. so saying "the manufacturers quote 8.7, but some magazine road tests.. have that down to around 8 secs" yes its a bit subjective.. but hey.. saying your 8v is faster a vr6 is just the same thing.
2) to be really picky (when in rome..) the 8.7 time is for 0-100 kph.. not 0-60... so 0-60 would be a little less as 100 kph is a little over 60mph
point is.. if you want to argue over whats better.. for gods sake dont be driving
1) the slowest car out of the whole mk3 GTI range
2) the first car in the entire GTI range to fall significantly behind the rest + probably the most hated gti of em all.. for ruining the mark.
this kinda speaks for itself...

Well said Oversteer.
To be honest i've nothing against the Mk3 Gti (8v or 16v).
They are quite good lokking cars..
My problem is with certain people who insist that the Mk3 8v is a 'great' car and implying its faster than a VR6. Personally i wouldnt have either.
Just stop pretending your car is fast. its not. End of.
-
Maybe not fast but Torque'e
I would have a VR6, sounds like they have plenty of torque all the way through the rev range.
;D
-
then the 8v is 10.9 sec
Uhm, I think you'll find its quoted at 10.3secs. :-*
so let me get this straight, your going off internet based roadtests etc yes?
ok, so that means
8v = 8.7secs
16v = 8.3secs
im happy now... thanx for that.
oh and I was JOKING when I said my 8v is quicker than a VR6 ... jeez, do u lot not understand sarcasm and jokes?
-
well if we're going off the internet i've seen 7.9 too..
Maybe not fast but Torque'e
I would have a VR6, sounds like they have plenty of torque all the way through the rev range.
;D
the 16v is torquey too.. guess they all gotta be a bit to launch the weight of the car forwards :)
we need dyno charts for all stock models ;)
-
I tried to find the graphs yesterday, torque against RPM, but no joy.
:)
-
sure would be cool to get the charts + plot em all against each other in excel :)
btw.. why doesnt this discussion appear to happen with the mk2 owners?
-
btw.. why doesnt this discussion appear to happen with the mk2 owners?
I think mk3 8v owners have a chip on their shoulder.
People have cars for different reasons. I have a golf cos its fast and the roof comes off. Probably sell it this year though (never have a car for more than 18 months).
The only reason anyone has a mk3 8v is that they couldnt afford a proper 16v car.

Er no, the owners manual states
8v 0-100km/ph 10.9secs
16v 0-100km/ph 8.7secs
I assume you do actually have an owners manual with your car
:D :D :D
:-* :-* :-*

LMFAO
-
haha
-
the 16v is torquey too..
Everywhere I read says its got a flat mid range, and no pull from low down.
Er no, the owners manual states
8v 0-100km/ph 10.9secs
16v 0-100km/ph 8.7secs
No it doesnt.
The only reason anyone has a mk3 8v is that they couldnt afford a proper 16v car.
And how many 18yr olds can afford to insure a 16v Golf? ... Ill just wait here while u find an answer.
-
I assume you do actually have an owners manual with your car
Cos your such a cocky git, I decided to proove that
A: I have a manual
B: The time is NOT 10.9secs
C: I'm right and your WRONG
http://www14.brinkster.com/gti16v/Acceleration.jpg
Copy & Paste that into ya browser u smarmy little sod
-
10.4 in mine too.. was just gonna say so meself... but ya beat me to it.
still everything i read about the 8v says its a sack of potatoes..
how can a car that accelerates slower than the 16v be 'more torquey' ?
why did they bother to put the traction control on it and the vr6 if it wasnt needed?
-
btw.. is the difference between a 8v and a 16v really that bad?
the reason i didnt get a vr6 is because of the high insurance, i refuse to pay that much. i only looked at the 16v vs vr6.
-
Ok, imagine this.
Your 18, you've had your licence 9month, and u want a sportier car than a 1.4 Golf match mk3.
So you look around and see these few cars that, u can buy and afford and can also get insurance on ... just
1: VW Golf GTI 8v mk3 3dr Black (mine)
2: Citroen Saxo VTR 90Bhp (Before the face lift)
3: Vauxhall Nova SRI
4: Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 (dunno what trim but loadsa lads have em)
5: 1.2 Renault Clio (Before the face lift)
6: Peugeot 106 Quicksilver 1.4 8v 75Bhp
7: Rover 25 1.4 16v 103Bhp
8: Fiat Punto 1.4 (Again loadsa lads/lasses have em and mod them)
9: Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec
10: Citroen XT GT
Now what would you choose? ... cos I wanna know if you'd pick what I picked... or should I have bought summet else from that list that I could afford etc?
Dont go shouting ... buy a real GTI ... buy a 16v cos I COULDNT AFFORD IT ... and also dont even think about mentioning mk1/2 Golf's, cos I wanted a 90's car ... preferably newer than my N reg Golf Match.
.. so go on... did I choose well? ... or should that nice XT GT have been mine? or perhaps the Punto? ... hmmmm
-
I had a rover 216sli at 18 which was quick, although never knew the book times, followed by a mk1 mr2 t-bar, then a 1.4 clio brand new and now my mk2 16v golf and for every day drivin my golf wins for comfort my clio won for those am igonna stop moments my rover won for speed my mr2 won for downright fun to drive i cant decide if the mr2 or golf are better and id had my licence about 7 month when i got my mr2 just not enough space init :'(
-
^ i was gonna get a mk2 mr2 t-bar.. ended up doin a full circle back to a golf
black_gti... whats the insurance like for the 8v? mines 750 quid fully comp for the valver.
-
?850 ... that was last march when I was 18.
-
?850 thats fu.ck all my mr2 was 1200
-
Ok, lets just clarify summet
1: I wasnt willing to pay more than ?1000, thats money down the drain
2: When I quoted anything more powerful than my 8v the result was
WE CANNOT QUOTE YOU ON THIS CAR which basically is a big **** you sign ... so that was out of the question
3: I had just bought a car that cost more than I actually had and therefore the loan needed to be paid also.
4: I had only just started my job
5: .. does there really need to be a 5? ... ok heres no. 5 : Im a named driver.
-
insurance is the reason i didnt get a vr6.. f**k paying 1200 quid.. i can afford it, but i refuse to pay that much.
my 1.4 polo open air was only 680 to insure.. 70 quid extra for a valver?
before the polo i wanted a karmann cab originally.. but they wanted silly money to insure that too..
-
Yea, why spend that on insurance... i can think of better things
-
sorry to go back a bit but on the campaign graph what does the 125 bhp mk4 stand for/?? is that my model the 1.8 20v non turbo?? if so what does the 't' stand for ???? its a 20v noramlly asp engine!!if you meant the 't' for turbo model youve got the power out puts wrong as was 150bhp ;D
-
the 16v is torquey too..
Everywhere I read says its got a flat mid range, and no pull from low down.
Er no, the owners manual states
8v 0-100km/ph 10.9secs

No it doesnt.
Strange that, as thats exactly what my owners handbook says, you must have a 'special' 8v.
:D

P-R-I-C-K
-
1994? jeez... dinosaurs were roaming the earth back then :D
-
Don't matter does it?
It gets to 60 QUICKER than 10.9 secs
You bought a snail with a gti badge on it
:D
-
black GTi not only is hard he also makes up his own fiqures.
-
yeah, hard as soggy sh!t :D
-
hard when he sees his mum :D
-
he also makes up his own fiqures.
?? wtf?? look at the image i posted and SEE WHAT IS WRITTEN BY VOLKSWAGEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
nothing has come up :D
-
Get a decent PC then.
-
Get a decent car
Not a snail :D
-
unfortunately insurance companies prevent that... why dont u get a newer car? instead of that shed.
-
Why do i want a new car?
Its fast as f**k :D
-
so is a 4Motion.
and its safer, better, better, and better i should know, ive drove both
-
I expect it is
Performance will be similar to the mk3, but it does have the added advantage of 4 wheel drive :)
-
just dont crash ;D
-
vr6 - pm
-
:-*
-
Look, if u are just gonna ignore my truce that I pm'ed u then fine... u wanna keep arguing and shouting and basically disrupting this community then bring it on.
I just wanna point out tho that I TRIED TO SETTLE THIS BUT ITS U WHO WANTS TO KEEP ARGUING!
^^^ hopefully jv will read that!
-
I hope jv does read it
-
I agree.. '6 is WELL out of line
Look back I already replied saying what black_gti had posted is whats in my manual too.
-
Yeah alright mate
I only quoted what was in MY OWNERS MANUAL
I don't think i deserved abuse for doing that
If you don't like it then f off :o

look at who became abusive and started calling him a liar...
disgraceful for a mod of this site.
-
tbh all of ya r vw owners so this fight is not needed,it should be "hey m8 nice ride etc etc"
just to put the record straight i have had both mk3 8v and 16v the 8v has slight edge on take off but soon as the 16v opens it creams the 8v !!
and by sayin that i not slaggin any1 its just my experience of havin both cars

Well said VR6, some members on here are just out to cause arguments for the sake of it.
Nothing constructive to say.
-
Thanx mate
IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT I DON'T ABUSE ANYONE WITHOUT BEING ABUSED FIRST.

ok i am totally lost here ::)

golfvr6 resorts to swearing
... what were u saying golfvr6??? ... I think I've just clarified the argument in that quote...
U provoke people to get arguments!!

GolfVR6 knows loads more than anyone else on these forums.
Lets just leave it at that shall we!
-
GolfVR6 knows loads more than anyone else on these forums.
Yes I know.
-
my point of view exactly dizze good to see others agree.
-
why is this bullsh*t carryin on man just drop it gettin boring
-
i dont even really care that much either. as long as it is vw its ok.
-
besides why did you have to argue under a thread with my name!
by association or what!
-
cause they love u !!
-
hmmm....i doubt that! :P
-
true ! :P they are fightin on most posts lol
-
Yeah i know. its vaguely amusing actually. before i got bored that is ;D
-
bored on a golf forum surely not ed.
-
GolfVR6 knows loads more than anyone else on these forums.
vr6 does know his sh!t, no question to that.
my point of view exactly dizze good to see others agree.
what the hell does that mean?
it doesnt mean he's *always* right?!
listen...
vr6 was right (allegedly) , blackgti was right.. dont you get it?
apparently the manuals show differing things, looks like depending on model year.
vr6 hasnt posted proof his manual shows what he says it does..
yet blackgti posted a picture of his, and I had previously been 'debating' with him.. and have confirmed that mine shows the same..
you're a sycophant. for you to continue riding vr6's nuts and continue calling Black_gti a liar AFTER its been shown that he*was not lying* is way out of line in my book.
-
can we please just leave it now.
and can a moderator please close this thread!

I'm sticking up for overseer coz he's always right even when he's wrong :P
lol this is too funny this thread.
