Title: MK1 info ASAP please!

Hey guys, MK2 owner so a bit out of my depth here! Looking at buying a MK1 GTI cab for summer, I'm going to view a black A plate soon. Were GTI open tops made on an A plate? It's listed as a 1.8, will this be correct? 4 or 5 speed? I've read a few buying guides, but anything else to look at?
