Title: Mobile Phone
Post by: Blowers on 05 March 2007, 09:49
I am picking up my used GTI alter today and it has a mobile phone install-not sure what (I don't think it was factory fitted) but I know  my Nokia 6021 will not fit. Is it just a question of buying a cradle that will fit my phone and getting someone to change the cradle over...or is it more likely the whole thing would need to be removed and a full Nokia kit re-installed. I live in Bucks....anyone know any recommended companies that do these things?

Many thanks

Geoff

I've not heard of your phone, but if it has bluetooth I would recommend getting a Parrot bluetooth handsfree kit, I had mine fitted for £280.  The kits costs like £100 off the net so its a fair bit of labour, and I have the ck3100 one.  I wanted it fitted properly as I wasnt about to rip the dash apart on a brand new car, so it was supplied and fitted at Sextons in Wandsworth, on recommendation of a forum member.

Geoff,

Check with the dealer to see if the phone kit was factory fitted. If so, it should just be a case of either choosing a phone to fit the existing cradle or buying another cradle for your existing/new phone and having it fitted. If factory fitted, the phone sho0uld operate from the cradle and will be charged up while connected. If not, you may need to fit a bluetooth kit which will allow your phone to connect wirelessly from anywhere within the car, but it will obviously not be charged up during use.

We use a lot of 6021s at work and there is a cradle that'll fit the Nokia CK7W kit (if that's what you have); it looks similar to other cradles but they are NOT interoperable - you will damage them using the wrong phone.  It should cost you £10-15 and depending on how it was fitted, you may be able to swap it over yourself.  They are pretty decent, though being the IT boss (and making the decisions) I use a Parrot CK3100 for my SE P910i or BlackBerry Pearl and it's a peach.
I got the fitter (who I trust - he's coming out to do my CFO's RS4!!) to place it just down from the gearstick; it's not the easiest place for me to see it, but then neither is it for window-breaking chavs - a sensible trade-off.
