Hi
just wondered if anyone knows what a standard 1.4 golf puts out BHP wise? and torque figures if possible.
Bought one recently and find it far nippier than my old escort 1.4, but thats probably not a good comparison!! Can keep up with my mates 1.4 polo of the same shape, so i think i may have something bigger in there that the previous owner neglected to tell the DVLA about :P
Thanks

1.4 8v is 75ps and 1.4 16v is 100ps
-
Eh? Shoot me if i'm wrong but everywhere I've looked, all the 1.4 mk3's have a mere 60 horses? :undecided:

Whats your engine code? Haynes mk3 book #3097 has 3 1.4 8v engines listed
ABD 59hp
AEX 59hp
APQ 59hp
Look in the boot under the carpet, at the white sticker  the code should be there
No mention of a torque figure in the Haynes  A Bentley might have it....dont have one of those

I got that off whatcar review but ps isnt straight bhp is it? not sure about the conversion but 60bhp sounds about right. After all the 2.0 8v is only 115 as you know but the 1.4 16v was said to have 100ps - whats that in bhp? Probably about 80?

There really isn't that much difference in ps to bhp. The mk3 GTI 16v is 150ps which is about 147bhp.
If the 1.4 was 100ps, that would make it about 98bhp which isn't right.
If you look on parkers.co.uk under reviews>technical data, you will see that all 1.4 mk3's are 60bhp which is about 60ps also.
1 PS = 0.98632 BHP

Ah, I stand corrected lol.
That was from a stoopid whatcar review but didnt say what year of car it was for. :embarassed: good cos I thought we'd been ripped off wi 8v gti power if a 1.4 had 100bhp....
