Title: 2.0 8v conversion
Post by: scotboy4 on 03 March 2007, 11:02
Hi guys i'm looking for some info please, i own a 1991 mk2 gti digifant (PB) with PAS and im looking to do an engine conversion, now under my circumstances i think the best for me would be to put a 2.0 8v from a mk3 gti in, unfortunately ive not been able to find much details on the conversion so any help on how to go about the conversion and what i would need would be great thanks.

You are better using the PB head as this flows better, I used 2E block and Distributor from the same engine and swapped over starter and Alternator over, I do not have PAS but would think swap over from existing unit. If budget allows consider fast road cam and ported head.

im doing one atm.
i have a pb head which i have polished and ported, i have had 12000 ground off to increase compression, removed the radii from each valve stem and fitted a fast road cam.

i have a 2e bottom end that i am fully rebuilding, just bought a full gasket set, mains, small ends, rings and hoaning the boars. i have ordered a shtrick windage tray from G werks and bought a mk3 tdi gearbox.

should be done and in for april.

i will be happy to share my experiences with you. add me to your msn, my ID is in my profile.

good luck bud

just preference really. @ 100mph with my mk2 box im doing around 4500rpm and even with the 2e conv i wont get it any better so with the stronger 020 derivitive box i will have good top end too.  the tdi box is stronger than the mk3 gti box and has longer 2nd and 3rd. because of the mods i have done to the new engine i feel its going to eat my mk2 box and clutch and wheel spin in 1st 2nd and 3rd which is useless if i wanna waste someone.

hey guys not been on for a while, since i started college ive just been to busy but ive finally got the finger out and ive got a 2e bottom end that im in the process of stripping the exterior of, all the internals seem fine and are in pretty good condition so i see no purpose in messing about with them so its just the outside thats getting stripped so i can clean it and spray it. Once i have the bottom end done im going to sourse what i need for the cylinder head and try and have everything there so i the mottor isnt off the road too long but thatnks for the help and if i run into any problems i'll give you's a shout lol

jase555 i have added u to my msn mate thanks a lot and i look forward to chatting to u cheers mate
