you need to check the fan itself, its located in the passenger side footwell, you need to remove the shelf below the glove box

the fan is probably seized due to water gettin into it via the bulkhead

thought this car was a minter??

well minter was maybe a bit of an exageration just needs a few we bits to tidy it up.

but externally it it is pretty good only one spot of rust.

i feel i did pretty well getting
full leather
cat 2 immobiliser
?300 sony head unit, 10 disc changer and vibe 6*9's
 lowering springs
9months mot

also kent cams and a gas flowed head all for ?1000

aye i know what you mean, the reason i know all about these problems your having is because mine had the exact same problems when i bought mine.

they are all pretty minor but majorily annoying!

think of the fun i had sourcing parts in the Isle of Man!!!

go visit a scrapyard some day and just salvage what you can out if it, fans, switches etc all easily fit in jackets with big pockets!!!

may just do that. to the scrappies on sat when i get the car insured.

also mate any clever way of fixing bumpers on so they dont sag?
and also gluing the side strips on in some way!

is your bumper saggin at the sides because of a broken clip? bit like this one on mine?

Pic2 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=10851&pos=3)

the top lip was broken of mine causing the bumper to sag v.bad, sat more diagonal that horizontal

dont know if the clip is broken or not but if it is how do i sort it?
any sensible way of reataching the rub strips on the side?

if the lug is broken then it cant be replaced by an actual VAG part

i took mine down to a bodyshop and told him what i wanted, i found a few bodyshops wouldnt touch as they couldnt guarantee it being 100% perfect

but eventually i found one who'd do it, i told him just to get a piece of thick aluminum sheet

then just create a new lug like this

then rivet this to whats left of the existing bracket and put it back on

job done, cost me ?25, and doesnt look out of place at all

as for the sidestrips, they pop into holes on the door, you could put a little blob of silicone on the back of the stripe, this will stick them on and wont damage the paint work

Have you checked the fuse?
Title: Re:heater not working and it's -3C
Post by: Ciaran on 28 January 2004, 12:37
course i checked the fuse if it had gone their would be no heat anyway! :o

you'll still get heat if the fuse is blown

the sliders determine the heat, the fan just determines the speed its blew threw the vents

Its always best to check things like heaters and heated rear windows before the cold spell starts so you can fix them without being frosty cold.

although saying that things never go wrong until its cold.

like Gambit said.

Take the fan out and give the bushes inside it a proper clean.

For a temp fix. Turn the fan on to full and give it a good tap. It should start to turn.

Mine did this. Check for a good seal around the fan cover (under the scuttle tray) Get it sealed up with silicone sealer if you need to :)
