I herd today that next year we'll be payin an extra ?60 for our insurance because of un-insured drives( bastards)!!
With payin 80% tax on petrol, road tax, congestion charges and the new M6 toll don't we pay a nuff?????
And now there is talk of raisin petrol to ?1 a littre!!!
People wouldn't dodge insurance if it wasn't sky high!
In ireland they have a second tax disc to prove insurance, we need this!
-
agreed ;D
-
Yeah, but we get great value for money don't we?
NOT
Why doesn't all the money get spent on the roads? I wouldn't even mind if some of it went on public transport - that would get some more f*ckers off the road, and free it up for the rest of us!
But no, its gets spent on all manner of B*llocks, other han from where its generated.
-
car insurance is little more than a protection racket, premiums bare little relation to the actual costs/probablitly ratio of claims that that are made. The insurance companies basically charge us loads of money for cars 'cause we have to, which they use to subsidise the other claims they have to pay out on. Thats why specialists are usually cheaper, as they only have to underwrite motor claims.
its all a con. The industry should be regulated so that motor insurance is ring-fenced from other risks.
-
if our roads were like an F1 track everywhere (ie, flat and no pot holes), speed cameras were only in spots that was actually dangerous and not on open A roads or hidden behind bridges and trees and various other related things were better I wouldn't mind shelling out the ?160 for my tax.
but raising the price of fuel is going to result in another scene like a couple years back. everyone panic buying. It's already 80p/litre where I work. It's just not on!
At a previous garage someone came in with out of date tax by more than a few days (like a year) so I said to him his tax was out of date. he told me to mind my own f**king business. I doubt he was insurred either. There are also so many cars on our roads that look like if you poked them something would fall off. I can't see why people can't look after their cars a little bit more. it doesn't take much to make it look like new. so many people comment how good my car looks and she's 17 in a few days! and I know there are mk1s the same.
Rant over - toast time ;D

Two cars drive by a police check point.
One, a rusty old nova saloon, bold ass tyers, no tax, no mot, no insurance because the oink who drives it dosen't care about his car as its just a mode of transport to hin, A to B.
The other, a middle modded gti, just been polished, new tyers because he drives his car fast and wants to stay on the road, tax'd and m.o.t'd because he know he is an likley target for the police, Insured because he wants some thing back if it gets knicked or rear ended, he loves his car, its his pride n joy!
Now, who are the police gonna pull, hassel and harrass?
Mr gti, because he isn't the sort of driver the police/goverment understands, he drives for plesure and pride of his prestine motor!
NOB HEADS!!!

that ireland idea sounds good, any1 who i no of that i dont no to well if i found out they didnt hav ins i would just grass them up, balls to em, pay ur way ar5holes!!! all it takes it one copper to walk round a shopping center car park takin an phoning through number plates, any dodges do em!! >:( >:( >:(

Why dont the police get off their fat arses and actually go out and arrest these wayne kerrs who drive with no insurance. I suppose that wouldn't help as they would only get a fine and never ever end up paying it as they dont have any cash.
I think a new punishment should be bought in, you drive with no insurance and you get kneecapped.
-
I think its ludicrous that we are in the 21st century and yet it is still so easy for thousands of drivers to con the government out of so much money.
I heard yesterday that one in twenty drivers is un-insured.
If those poeple are un-insured, they can't buy a tax disc, so a lot of those cars will be un-taxed also.
If you have no tax and no insurance, you aren't likely to bother having the car MOT'd either.
The reason these people aren't caught and bought to justice comes down to the fact that there is no visible method of displaying your conformance with MOT and insurance - you're only caught when you get pulled over.
This is where its all wrong, as Dizzie says, the police are more inclined to tug the driver of a modified car. The modified car driver has, in many cases, spent thousands on his/her car, and therfore wishes to protect his/her investment - the likelihood of us guys going unisured is vastly lower than that of someone driving a ?300 sh!tbox vehicle that they don't give a f*ck about.
So, the police are pulling plenty of drivers, but instead of catching criminals (people who are actually costing the rest of the country money) they are issuing us tickets for having our stereo's too loud, or having blue bulbs in our sidelights.
I see no reason why a method cannot be introduced that show's to the outside world that a car is legal. It may complicate the process of buying or selling a car, but i it means near 100% conformance with MOT tax and insurance, surely its got to be worth it?
-
Agree with all the above points, but most untaxed, un ensured and un MOT'd cars are not in the drivers name. When they get a producer, they give a false name and address. It is to much hassel for the plod to follow up, easy to pull over the guy that has a bulb out on a legal registered car and have nice tidy paperwork.

-
The the only option is to impound these cars and crush them!
-
with the owners inside?
-
Hell yeah!
-
dizzie and s11eps, I agree with what you're sayin entirely and mkI makes a very valid point, most coppers in an average day will make say two arrests and spend the rest of the day doing the paperwork for the two arrests they've made. That was something said by a WPC on radio 2 (I know, radio 2 but I am an old f****r) a couple of weeks ago while in a discussion about something else. However if they pull over your typical GTi driver over they know that the driver won't be doing anything wrong but it's an easy bit of form filling and no follow up paperwork.
If anyone else wants to make some more valid points about the whole insurance (display on windscreen?), tax and MOT issue, then keep it coming and maybe we should forward this thread to all our local politicians? Thoughts?
By the way, sorry I've not been around for while but I've been moving house and redecorating-did anyone miss me? ( please I hope someone did- sad f****r eh!!).
-
They have introduced a new MOT sticker now that is blue. (matches my car) ;D
so this time next year, if you dont have MOT then you dont get a MOT sticker which means you have no MOT.
-
MK2, is this going to be a compulsary thing?
-
yes i think so mate.
-

Such a nice colour! ;)
Like i've said b4.know sum1 who was driving without insurance, got banned(been driving less than 2yrs) n a ?200 fine but if that person had killed sum1,like vixter said? Its all wrong n i for 1 am sick of the government havin a go at us proper drivers who take with our cars n driving! >:(Its always us who get penalised n its not on!
This is soo 1 of them threads what cud get me hot under the collar!I'm done now! ;D
Dinky :-*

Dinky, be smart and don't get angry over this sort of thing, make you're opinion known in a sensible way and let your mind think about more serious issues in your life-like what mode you're going to do to your car next!!
-
they have got special sensors that read number plates in police cars (mainly in police ford galaxy's). anyway...these devices check for insurance, tax, mot etc etc blah blah ::)
Dinky, Blue is the best :-*
-
Yes but id have more money for mods if i weren being taxed n insuranced! ;D
I'm not angry,just get p!ssed sumtimes! ;D
Dinky :-*
-
Dinky, Blue is the best
YEP! ;D
Dinky :-*
-
oh ffs. it's bad enough having to have a tax disc in the windscreen. can't we have a system like in the states where you have to renew your tags.
because I'm not a yank I'm assuming this means renew your number plates that carry your tax.
Then get plates like germans with those little thingys separating some of the letters ;D
-
this hasnt got nuffin to do with the higher tax's but tax disk suck! they look ugly!
WHOS WITH ME!! >:( :P
-
I think they also do a system in Australia where insurance, tax and MOT are all applied together, ANY AUSSIE'S WATCHING??
-
Why not register the driver, not the car. This way if you get stopped they know who you are. I have nothing to hide. The laws seem to work well on law abiding people, not the law breakers. If they do catch the criminal, it costs the tax payer to prosecute and defend. Ands they have more rights than the victim!!
Steve.

Spent a while in Aus, "rego" coverd the road tax, 3rd party insurance and mot. This way all cars (drivers) on the road had some insurance. You would not get away with driving a un rego'd car in NSW. If you wanted full insurance , you would buy another policy from a broker to bring it up to fully comp.
-
sounds like a good enough system to me mkI. lets have it over here
-
The simple, completely fair and common sense way to deal with road tax is to abolish it and add the road tax duty to the cost of fuel. Ok before you scream and shout remember we are already paying tax on fuel, and yet the government still hits us with road tax, just think of all the advantages?.
- It's completely fair, you will pay an exact proportionate amount depending on how much you use your car and therefore how much you use the roads. Why should an OAP who pops to the shops once a week pay the same as a sales rep doing 100,000 miles a year?
- It?s environmentally friendly, if your car is not well maintained, or you have a large car that uses more fuel then again you pay an exact proportionate amount depending on how efficient your car is and not on how big the engine is. It would also help to encourage more environmentally friendly driving styles.
- Huge administration cost savings (millions of pounds), have you ever thought how much it costs to administer road tax, all the millions of reminders that need to be sent, letters, postage, road tax discs, post office charges, police costs to enforce the tax, etc...
- Completely stops any road tax evasion, you use a car, you have to buy fuel and so you pay road tax, that simple! Not only that but people visiting this country and using the roads would also contribute, thus increasing the number of people contributing and helping to keep the increase on petrol prices to a minimum.
- Congestion charges, well with road tax on fuel you will proportionally pay more tax when driving at peak times (i.e. rush hour) and on congested roads (e.g. in London) as you?ll use more fuel, conversely you will proportionally pay less when driving during quieter periods (e.g. at night) and on roads that are less congested.
- Overall saving, with all the savings made by the abolishment of road tax, less of a tax on fuel would only be needed to recover the same amount of net revenue.
- And instead of having to display road tax, surely it's far more important to have to display a valid MOT and certificate of insurance, this also wouldn't cost anymore either as both the MOT & Insurance certificate could include a tear off section that you display in your windscreen.
I honestly can't think of any negative points to this idea, only for Political reasons has this not been introduced as the politicians are scared of not being reelected, again policies are determined by votes and not by what actually works and is fair.
-
That is without doubt the fairest idea. You pay for what you use.
The only potential problem is that the current tax system demands your car has a valid MOT certificate and is insured at the time of taxing it. By effectively abolosihing road tax (by adding it to the cost of fuel) you're removing that requirement, so that solution to the tax problem will probably breed more insurance/MOT dodgers.
This will only be negated by doing as you suggest, which is to display valid MOT and insurance details in the windscreen, and the chances of any government introducing all three of those at once will be nil!
-
Lovely car zoid! ;D
Dinky :-*
-
road tax the devils work lol ;D
-
I've thought about the problem of people avoiding paying tax, and thus bumping everyone elses up, a few times, and reckon the best bet would be to introduce a registration system, where by you need to prove you have a Tax, MOT, insurance, and are then entitled to a card that is similar to a credit card style swipe card, registered to the car. Without this card you wouldn't be entitled to draw fuel from a garage -
No tax/MOT/Insurance = No Card = No Fuel = stationary Car.
Simple idea, effective results
-
Thanks Dinky!
In terms of Road tax showing you have insurance and MOT, well in reality it only proves that at the time of purchasing road tax you had insurance and MOT. What happens if your insurance and road tax are due to expire the following month, it would still let you drive with no insurance and tax for nearly a year, plus the majority of car with no insurance and mot wouldn't be paying for road tax anyway!
The easiest way is to have to display insurance and mot in your windscreen, on the insurance and mot certificate it would only need to include a tear off section that by law you have to display, and then you could see straight away if they had the proper docs.
