Title: '89 Auto 1.6 problems
Post by: GouldyBoy on 27 February 2007, 14:48
I have an old mk2 automatic which was given to me a few months back as its not worth alot and the owner no longer had a need for it. It is a 1.6 and has about 81k on the clock, and the only problem i was aware of with the car is that the heater didnt work (or the fan). The car usually starts first time and has no problems ticking over, but recently i have started thinking that the car is lacking in performance for a 1.6, as with the pedal to the floor the car struggles to reach 95mph. I dont know alot about cars but i did notice that it was a little loud, so I checked underneath for holes in the exhuast and around the downpipe whilst the engine was running and non could be found. Any ideas?

sounds about right, the auto box isn't really good for top end!
