Title: Automatic to manual ?

How hard is it to change a 1800 8v golf gl automatic into a manual using parts from a 1800 golf gti manual ?
Or is it even possible?

quite involved, you need:
complete gear linkage
steering rack possibly <- check the manual linkage mount is on the rack
gearbox & starter motor
clutch & flywheel possibly
pedal box

Just had this done to mine at Bedrock veedubs in Motherwell. Pretty sure everything was changed that rubjonny mentions apart from the steering rack. John Berry at bedrock is a good bloke and works on both my 16 valve and the GL... he may well be willing to give you some advice if you give him a phone.

My GL goes a lot better now too!!

ok then thanks for your help both of you, will get round my mates and have a look at the GL hes got.
