wheres the mk3????
-
So what your saying is you wanna buy a proper GTI that demands respect as a result of performance and heavy premiums or a nice family hatch back with a little sticker on the front that claims it be of GTi pedigree. A car that started the decline of the world's greatest badge!
Best Regards
Manesh
p.s. ever thought of a toyota corolla thats a nice family hatch too.... ;D

Yeah cos we all know how blisteringly quick the mk2 8v is huh.
its 150kg lighter than the mk3 and has less equipment, smaller alloys etc
Pick the mk3... least ur only 2 generations behind then...
-
that mk2 has 15's on it, which is the size mk3's come with
early mk3 GTI's just looks like a run of the mill hatchback
mk2 big bumpers always turn heads in the street
depends what you want really, mk3 will be more refined, mk2 id say is more desirable - its getting hard to find decent ones at decent money
-
Yeah cos we all know how blisteringly quick the mk2 8v is huh.
quicker than the mk3 8v that's for sure...

To Black_GTI
Dizzie's got a point!
quicker thats what a GTI is about, oh yeah and handling, weight and looks!
Mk3 looks like a over weight hippo, probably handles like one and off course probably not as quick as...
The only thing a mk3 8v got over a mk2 8v is i think it comes standard with abs and before i forget its poggy weight.
mk 2 8v 0-60 mph according to the brochure is 8.3 secs (I have proof)
mk 3 8v 0-60 mph according to "best family hatch Brochure" is about 10.5 days
just friendly banter to anyone who gets offended ;D
To conclude:
mk3 8v about as good as a ford escort gti (Ggggrrrrrrrrr) (Easy Tiger!)
-

So .. the mk2 weights about 150kg lighter than the mk3... has the same power and manages to get to sixty in under 2secs faster?
wtf brochure was that?

Lemme just clear this up.
Rover 420GSI 16v J reg
Vs
VW Golf GTI 16v mk2
...What won? the Rover did.
How do I know? cos my brother many years ago and his mate decided to race them... his mate was like .. mines a GTI it'll beat urs easily... and it didnt.
Now the Rover 420GSI didnt get to sixy in under 8secs... and its quicker than the 16v mk2... so u REALLY think the 8v does it in 8.3secs???
who u kiddin'?
-
kniterider, can we look into getting a 1/4 mile shoot out organised, that we mentioned before? run a load of standard and modified GTI's up the strip to try and prove a few things :)
-
obviously your brothers mate is to drivin like emile heskey is to scoring goals ;D
any 16v thats been looked after with a non muppet behind the wheel will cover 0-60 in under 8 secs at least and they do get quicker with age.
How can you make that comment that all rover 420gsi's are quicker after one race?
and i thought the thread was about 8v's not 16v's ???
-
aye it is about 2 8v's.
-
mk8v would be a better faster drive, but would say a mk3 would be a good chunk of car for the cash.get a good clean mk2 while theres still some left..
-
what you think of the 1 i posted then ?? looks clean from the pics.
-
if its a clean motor cant go wrong for that sort of money,go have a look
-
a mk2 is more involving and early mk3's did suffer from reliability probs but not anything to bad, parts for a mk3 maybe slightly more expensive i dont know. a mk2 8v is quicker than a mk3 8v, both are tidy cars and where the right badge tho. i would try and drive both see what you prefer.
black gti is yours an 8 or 16v? not for any reason just wondering, it looks quite tidy from your sig pic
-
mite wait and see if i can pick up 1 in the future need to get my 1.3 sorted 1st

Buy the mk2. It's about a third of the price, a 3 door, late spec, isn't a Rover, will handle - Christ at that price I'll come down and buy it! So long as it has a bit of MOT
- and Tax
- and Service history
- and receipts
Bugger it - Buy a Rover or a Mk 3
-
mk3 all the way without a doubt.would'nt even concider a mk2
-
i got a bog standard 16v mk2 you can use in it. and get mk2 over mk3 any day. in my opinion the only good mk3 is the vr6.
-
cant believe all you are STILL argueing over this! :o we should have a drag race type thing and then decide!
kniterider any ideas??
-
ello veedubgti16v by the way. i know where you live mofo!
