i have a 1.8 8v k-jet and am after some advice.
i want to get more grunt from the motor, what are the best routes.
ive not a lot of cash, but was thinkin of gettin a mk3 2.0 8v head and fittin that.
if i did what else would i need, would there be other complications, or would it even work?
ive already got a exhaust, and am currently making a induction kit (the pipercross 1 sucks).
is there anything else for cheap power boosters?
thanks again

ive got an audi 2l bottom block with the mk2 head as im sure that it breathes better than the mk3..if you have a gander at the FAQs on the engine section i think theres loads of info matey

Sounds to me your just fitting 8v head only? If so it will not make much dfference from head thats already on. How much you got to spend if you dont mind.

You want a 2.0 block. You will gain nothing, in fact you will lose power by fitting a MK3 2.0 8v cylinder head.

got about 3/400 quid.
i thought id end up with the same bhp but more torque!
but i thought id ask before i went a head and did it,
what do you recon would be the best option?
-
its the block that will give you more torque, not the head ;)
Invest in a ported & polished head, a decent fast road cam and the 2.0 bottom end, should see you around 150BHP :)
With just a std MK2 head & cam you'll get about 120 at a guess, but more torque
A MK3 head is no good anyway as the inlet ports are totally different, if you wanted to use it you would have to convert to MK3 injection, which woudn't be worth the effort.

as rubjonny says...the audi 3a 2l block is the same height as your standard block and there is loads of them available, otherwise a mk3 block or passat block will do but is slightly taller i think...your ancillaries will bolt up to the block as per your standard engine, just whack your ported/cammed mk2 head on and voila..
like i said thow best to check the FAQs under the engine section on clubgti loads of info
