Title: GTI ED30 - How was it for you ???????????
Post by: Hector on 23 February 2007, 22:05
OK Here we go - for's and against:

Took delivery of a week 4 build on Wednesday and just completed 200 miles (fairly carefully ).

Having owned one of the first wave Mk5 GTI's for two years I was impressed with the build quality of the new (2007) cars (inc Non ED30)

Against the ED30:
Rear window seals are no longer external and don't match the front window seals.
Glove compartment linings are some naff Velcro feeling stuff rather than rubber (I like that rubber )
Aluminum ash tray cover boring plastic.
Some other cost cutting when compared to my other GTI.
Wheels are just about OK'ish  :embarassed:

For the ED30
The power the power the power  Ho yes it feels different, you feel like you are holding the power back all the time.
Same throttle setting on my old GTI seems to give me about 15 to 20 mph more speed in the ED30.

As for spec I have the same as Illyun - and the Xenons are fantastic.

Now anyone buying a normal late 2006/2007 spec GTI will not be disappointed also - the build quality is a step change up, and in some colours I do agree that the non ED30 looks better.  I had the graphite blue with Monza's and all in all I think it looked better than the new one, but the ED30 feels different and fits between the R32 and standard model.

Other points:
Tyres are Dunlop's
The IPOD link works well with a 6 Playlist display (no titles though) and a mix facility.
Must have the equalizer switched off on the IPOD for great sound quality.

Ho I do like golfs - this is my 6th over the years

I agree, nice to see pro's and cons in one posting. They all seem good too, but can't comment on ED30 failings as have only sat in a stationery one for 1 minute!
