The owner of Walkingshaw VW near where I live just bought a mk1 GTI (see my pics in the mk5 forum) ... he paid ?13,800 for it and its a 1983 (I think) reg.
He says he paid that cos its an original GTI ... the mk1 is the greatest etc etc ... all other Golf GTI's are just "cars" ... nothing beats the mk1.
... I dont agree, yes it was a VERY clean car, but not worth ?13,800.
it had 81,000 approx miles on the clock.
anywayz, just curious what u think to the quote "the mk1 is THE GTI, the rest are just cars" ... NOT MY QUOTE[/i].... NOT MY QUOTE... DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER!!! I DIDNT ORIGINALLY SAY IT!!!!
*understand??*
-
13,800 :o
-
so that means its original right down to the wiper blades?
he got conned :P
-
Its only worth what someone is willing to pay. Personally i think he had payed too much though :o
-
I remember seeing a mk1 going for ?10,000 and that was totally original and looked stunnig . I only paid ?1000 for my mk1 and everything is sound but it?s not all standard VW parts and its had some spray work so it can?t be called original. If the one for ?13,000 is original even down to the paint I could see someone buying it, not me though. It?s hard to judge without seeing the car.
-
dumb ass :)
-
love mk1's to bits but couldnt justify paying that much!!! could get a nice v6 4motion for that!! ;D
-
It is a lot of dosh, but when you have pot loads of cash the ???'s don't matter its what he wanted. If it is a good as it sounds, how many like it are around?.
Steve.
-
do you reckon you can get him to post some pics on the site?
-
Sorry, I only know him through my sister-in-law and she works for him. He owns the VW dealership so I cant just walk in and say "hey can u post sum pics @ golfgti.co.uk" lol
I did take sum pics with my camera fone, and they can be viewed in the "ive just had my private mk5 viewing" thread...
.. I think I put the mk1 pics up... ill check

-
might just be the quality of the pic, but does it not have the red surround on the grille?
-
I clicked it ;)
-
13800! :o you could buy an original, unmodified golf limited for that! i dream about those cars! oh how i dream......
-
i no its in a showroom, but it does look well dam mint! ?13,800 he must be a megger enthusiast wiv a lot of money! Thing is you wouldn't really wanna drive it would ya? hav to keep perfect 8)
-
but does it not have the red surround on the grille?
Cant remember, cant tell from the pic... :( should've chose a finer detail setting...
he must be a megger enthusiast wiv a lot of money!
Well he does own a VW dealership...

oh i see, he does like them a bit then! does he intend to drive it keep it, or just flash it in his showroom?
-
Hes gonna be driving it! :o
-
Its a shame people are spending that sort of money on them and then hiding them away as an investment, after all the concept of the GTI was it was meant to be driven.
Its only worth what someone will pay for it.
-
Thats why he'll be driving it... ::)
-
How much is he paying to insure it then if its book value is 13 grand?
-
... I dont know everything... ;)
-
Just seems a bit silly to me, for 13 big ones you could make a nutter golf and still have change left over to insure it.
-
He doesnt want a nutter golf, he wants the original and the best (in his eyes)
-
but does it not have the red surround on the grille?

would be funny if it didnt, 13k and it aint a totally original GTI, he'd hardly look a tit - but if he's a VW dealer then id assume he'd check the finer points!
-
looks mint......if it was mine, id knock me front living room wall down and make me own 'showroom' to keep it in!
-
mine's now insurred for ?4000 on an agreed value policy ;D
-
I can understand somone paying big bucks for a Mk1, but for that sort of money it would have to be really special with really low mileage, not with 80k on the clock!
BTW I'm thinking of getting an agreed insurance value, who have you used?
-
tbh nuts !! i wouldnt spend that much on a mk1 !!! thats crazy i mean i can hardly talk the cash i have spent on mine !!
did the car come with a free white coat ?? and 6 months in a free padded cell ?
-

-
