cheap option would be to fit GTI 8v 239 vented discs & pads up front, these will fit straight on though you may need to replace the caliper slider bolts with GTI items. If you want to go larger, you can fit 256 or 280mm brakes. To do this you'll need to replace the wheel hubs with 16v 256mm ones or G60 280mm ones, then fit the matching calipers & carriers.

I've upgraded to the 239 vented from 239 solids - straight swap - just need the thinner gti pads. Do not get Halfords pads - they squeal & rattle like bastards.
As far as the caliper bolts - I only replaced them because i had to kill them to get the fcuking calipers off...
Bought new bolts, metal sleeves, rubber thingies & the little white plastic insert doobers (WOW I'm sooo technical ) from VW new - £38 inc vat
DD

dog day,if you put copper slip grease on the back of the pad then they shouldnt sweek.
