Title: Rear seats query? **NOW WITH PICS** What do you reckon?
Post by: D16vGti on 20 February 2007, 10:57
Hi all,

Just a quicky question really, will SEAT Leon rear seats fit in a mk2 golf? I'm not bothered if they are too small as I can fabricate some bits to fill the gap or if they need a bit of jiggery-pokery to fit, I'm just wondering whether they are too big, cus I can't cut them down if they are.

All help appreciated

Cheers guys and gals

Dan

Not sure but I know Seat Ibiza seats do. I saw a Mk2 16v with newly fitted Ibiza rear seats at The Phirm when I was there last and Tim the owner explained how much easier and better the fit was in comparison to Corrado rear seats.

Unfortunately I haven't found cheap rear Ibiza seats with headrests, thanks for the info though. If I don't get a informed answer then I may well look for the ibiza version.

Any one done this or know anything about the differences between the ibiza and the leon rear seat dimensions?

Cheers

What year ibiza were the seats out of that he was saying fitted easier?

Just in case I do have to source some.

Cheers

Well I've taken the plunge and bought the leon seats!

Going by the measurements of the seats its possible they will fit, I'll let everyone know if they do and I'll put together a how-to if I do manage to get them in.

Sorry mate, I'm not sure what year they were from. I'm sure the Leon seats will go in, it's just a matter of effort involved

I have a trial fit and it appears I'm going to need the mounting points from an actual seat leon and then weld them in to the car, shouldn't be much more work than trying to get corrado seats in. I'll post a pic once I've uploaded it in a minute and you can see the trial fit.

Yeah, interesting.  Keep us post on how you fabricated brackets and stuff. I can see that they sit a bit forward at the top at the moment. Is that because they're thicker, or is that just to make them sit tight for the picture so they don't fall back?

Its because they were sitting against the bolts that the standard seats clip to at the top.

They are actually a really good fit dimension wise, its just all all the mounting points are different, I think I'm prolly gonna have to take an angle grinder to a leon to get the brackets off to make fitting them easier, and then just weld the brackets in my car in the correct position.

I'm actually having a tough time deciding whether to do it or not as they are quite a bit heavier than the standard seats and i don't really want to affect the performance.  :undecided:

Decisions, decisions....
