I have noticed that if you touch the connector plug that goes into the distributor on my MkII Golf the engine cuts out. Is this plug replaceable? Anyone know how much and how they are supplied? Is it a case of cutting and rejoining wires from the loom to the new plug?
-
do u mean the hall sender on the side of the dizzy?
-
Thats the one yes
-
you'll find its the actual wires in the dizzy that have broken, after a time they become v.brittle - by touching the plug you are moving the wires inside the dizzy itself
you can buy a replacment hall sender for about ?7 from EuroCarParts
-
So does this mean I will probably have to buy a new dizzy rather than just replacing the hall sender?
-
no, you can remove the dizzy from the head, there is a pin in the back that you can drive out. this allows you to take the dizzy apart and replace the hall sender alone
also, mark the position of the dizzy on the head before removing it, makes setting the timing easy when putting it back on.

Nice one. I'll try that option. ?7 won't break the bank.

ask Stuart (EuroCarParts) off here to get it for you. it needs to be ordered specially
-
Should be able to buy a dipstick from there too yeah?

should be able to
just ask him
