Title: Manifold Rattle
Post by: markmarky0 on 19 February 2007, 22:07
Hi since ive had my vw golf gti 8v i have had a tinny rattle noise to the front lower part of the car. It sounds mosy when i am idling and in the early rev stages. I replaced the manifold with a sports 4 branch manifold and its still there, only thing i can think of is it may need heat tape to stop the rattlle. I have removed the heat shield and it has a new jetex exhaust.
Any ideas would be great this is really doing my head in!

The only tin shield I know of under the car is the one that sits below the gear stick and is above the front and centre section.  Are you sure that the fasteners that hold it on have not come loose?  I took mine off and had to buy new fasterners to put it back on again.

if the tin shield isnt rattling then the middle silencer innerds has collapsed & the box needs replaced.

just stick ur head under while u ref the car and you'll soon work out where its comin from
