hi ave managed to get hold of a new glove box as my existing catch part got knackered. i basically know how to take the glove box out and swap the lockign mechanism but i dotn know how you take the inner plastic piece off the door to acess the lockign mechanism its seems to be sort of welded on, there must be a way of takign it off and then assembling it onto the new door.
please help.

byt he way all mk4 locks are the same so dont go to the extend of swappign ure lock mechanism over i learnt the hard way prized the fookign lid off took me a hour and then only to find that the lock actually locked when i put my key in the new glove box was tryign to swap the mechanism over but found theres no need.
anyway i managed to super glue the lid back on just needs fittign on saturday now. best bet to buy a complete lid with a lock already on it as it will def fit our key even if its off a diff car...

I know this is old but thought I should update it, Ive just bought a new glovebox and the above isnt right. My key does not lock the new glove box.

this should have been corrected a long time ago really, but like you said not all the locks are the same, and there are a couple of different glove box designs.
if you plan to swap your lock over, best bet is to remove the front from both the lids and swap the Handle over, as its a real pain to remove the lock from the handle.
