sorry to put this in here just thought it would be noticed more.
-
i paid ?25 each for mine
ring round a few VW scrappies, there is a couple listed in the good guys forum
piece of pish to fit
-
There's a mechanism going on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2455707815&category=9889
-
will that one on ebay fit late and early model mk2 16v as mine is a 1991 J?
-
AFAIK that's will fit any non quarter light models, which should include you.
However winning anything on ebay for the right price is hit and miss, get a quote for the part you need (give these a try http://www.gpcvwaudi.com) incuded p&p and make sure you don't pay more on ebay for what your after, and note this items is ?8.45 p&p
As you just need the motor (assuming can be sold seperately) you'll be up against people after the whole thing, which means their willing to pay more.
-
to tell u the truth iv not even looked in the door to see how much of the mechanism is still left!
-
Ciaran, do any of your windows work? first thing i would check for is dud window switches
if one window works, then take the switch out and swap it around to see if both switches work
if both switches work then proceed to step 2 ;)
dismantle the door card, pretty easy to do, 4 screws on the card & two on the door handle
you'll probably need to take away the rubber membrane to get at the motor (good idea to replace these also when the cards are off)
check the connections to the motor, if you have a multimeter check that there is power getting to the motor itself
next step. while tapping the broken motor with a hammer try operating the switch, they sometimes just stick due to lack of use, and a couple of knocks free's them up
still dont work? then it must be banjo'd - get a replacment motor - u need the full assembly including runners - from a late spec golf i.e. not qtr panels
ring round VW breakers and get prices of them, you can get them for ?25
peice of pish to fit, 3 bolts on the motor, 4 on the runner, and 2 holding the glass to the runner

must say though the switch itself does not glow when the light are on if that is any help?
-
the switch should glow even if the window motor doesnt work, do both of them not glow?
if it dont glow then there is no power to the switch
not sure if there is a fuse relating to them or not, ill need to check it out tonight
they just pull out anyhow, give the contancts a clean up - i have a spare one in the house somewhere you can have if you find it is a dud switch
this is my first golf, bought it in Aug 2002 - took a while to learn the basics, but a haynes gives you a good overview on the car itself, then the rest is just what you pick up through problems you or others have had.
-
the passenger side switch glows i think cant realy check just now as im in aberdeen and the car is at home in dundee.
-
then next time your back at the car swap the switches round and see what happens
-
will do do the just pull out and plug back in?
-
Both my switches glow whatever, even when keys arent in and lights arent on. Is this normal or does it need to be rewired?
-
Ciaran, yes you just pull the switch & its housing out of the centre console, then just pull the two apart.
lowgolf, im not sure about the lights glowing when the keys arent in the ignition, ill have to check
-
Lowgolf, the switches shouldn't glow with the keys out of the ignition, do glow when in (regardless of if lights are on), indicates a problem possibly at the ignition barrel, or maybe just wiried wrong.
Ciaran, if one light glows and the other doesn't probably a blown bulb in the one that doesn't when you switch them round you should be able to see for sure.
Fuses are inline thermal AFAIK.
-
il have to try swapping the switches around and see! ;)
